Rome, July 20.—Notwithstanding the cfScial denials of die Italian govern ment of the reports that cholera has ap peared in Italy, it is known that the disease is prevailing in Alessandria, the capital of the province of that name in Piedmont. Many cholera oases are re ported there, and new cases are of daily occurrence. The disease is not confined to Alessandria, but cases are rep ■. ted in a number of other places in Pied mont. ATHENS. July 26.—The Greek consul at .Smyrna. Asia Minor, reports that Jive cases of cholera and two deaths firm the disease have occurred there. Chattanooga, July 26.—While the express train on the Georgia division of the East Tennessee system was en route . from Rome Tuesday night, a fairly well dressed man boarded it at a way station. When asked for a ticket he said he had no money, bnt would ride, and declared that there were not enough train hands to put him off. The oouductor single handed threw him off. whereupon he drew a revolver and fired six bullets into the ladies* coach, frightening the occupants and narrowly missing some of them. A hunt was made for him, but he was hidden iu the woods and could not be found. A Stouter Jawbone Found. Virginia. Ills, July 26.—A monstrous jawbone of a mastodon was unearthed near Bluff Springs, Ills. It weighed 103 pounds and measured 44 inches long and 21 inches wide. It contained four huge teeth.
