Cr»»* Fears Are Veit That Thar* WiU Be Fearful Timas la tba »os» tain Regions Before the Summer Is Over. m Knoxville, Tenn., Aug. 9.—Private Laagherty, of Fort Andenon, was am bushed and killed at Coal Creek Monday night about 11 o’clock. It was a clear case of murder, and yet the miners say that the trouble is all over. Grave apprehensions are felt that this is only the beginning of the worst, and that by the 16th of this month it will be worse in the mining districts than on the same date last year when several people lost their lives. Rumors were afloat all day that there had been a skirmish at Fort Lewis, but they need ed confirmation. The miners are said to be wrathy over the location of the branch prison on Brushy mountain near them, and will again release the convicts, who they thing are working in their opposition. TVoops at Fort Anderson are in readi ness for an attack, and will revenge their comrade’s death. All is quiet now, though there is some subdued excitement in Knoxville. SHORT NEWS NOTES. Fifty Tourists Take Charge of a Train for a Bide. Lima, O., Aug. 9.—At a late hour Sunday night the New York fast train eastbonnd on the Pittsburg, Fort Wayne and Chicago railroad was boarded by about 50 tramps at Delphos, a small town 10 miles west of this city. They swarmed through the train, took pos session of the baggage car and a Poll- man car and terrorized the crew and passengers. Telegrams were sent to thepolice in this city. when the train pnlled into the sta tion here the passengers were greatly excited. On seeing the squad of blue- coats on both sides of the train the tramps jumped off and took to their heels. The police pursued them and a number were arrested, but as there were but 10 officers in the squad part of the gang escaped to the woods. The men claim to be idle workmen returning from the west and rendered desperate by hunger. They say they wanted no booty, but only transporta tion to the east. BANDITS IN SALVADOR. Selveria, an aged and wealthy planter of San Salvador, living about Smiles from the capital, and the subsequent capture and summary execution of 17 of the brigands. The Outlaws, 150 in number, descend ed on Selveria’a plantation about the middle of Jane. They broke into the house, brutally treated the planter, as saulted his wife and housemaid, terri fied several workmen, secured $26,000 cash and valuable jewelry, and escaped to the mountains, lie government was immediately notified, and dispatch ed soldiers after the outlaws.
