SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 1893. OURSELVES AND NEIGHBORS. Albany comes to the front in the malcer of aiding Brunswick. Macon will issue a local currency and be in the swim with Albany. The village blacksmith is under arrest at Eaton ton for burglary. The Augusta cotton mills have just sold 1,100 bales of domestics for ex port. She will likely pay damages to the extent of her lawyers fees and the cost of court. A big crop of rattle snake stories is being gathered by the enterprising Georgia editor. The Americas banks will issue cer tificates of deposits. The merchants have agreed to take them. There has not been a bar-room failure in Georgia up to date. What’s the matter with the bar-rooms? Two thousand pounds of dynamite were accidentally exploded in Au gusta Sunday morning. Score one point for Augusta over Atlanta. If there are no other entries in the gubernatorial race The News will favor that Christian soldier and patriot, General C. A. Evans. — Dawson News. We welcome the Waycross Even ing Herald to this office. The Her ald, like the Albany Herald also of “down the country,” is wide awake and up to snuff.—Hustler of Rome. Four members of the board of health of Columbus have resigned because the city council refused to quarantine against Brunswick as re commended by the board of health. According to a reliable estimate there were in a single county in Washington more than two hundred and thirty thousand squirrel scalps received from bounty hunters in the month of May. It is now reported that the big World's Fair is making a profit of about £80,000 per day and will per haps be able, by the time the show is over, to pay something to its stock holders. The Birmingham Age-Herald thinks the old saw, “God helps those who help themselves,” should be changed to meet modern require ments into “God help anybody caught helping himself just now.” We learn that a negro woman at Boston has entered suit against the S., F. W. Ry., for£2,000damages because Mr. T. J. Bottoms refused to allow her to go on one of his ex cursions to Brunswick, which was run exclusively for white people.— Times. Hitch and Bly Dicken son are candidates for treasurer of Clinch county. Cotton is worth auywhere from 5 to 7 cents in the interior towns and no money to pay for it. The Cutbbert Eutergrise says: The fight is not between capital and labor, but between producer and plunderer. There has been a hitch in Albany’s clearing house certificates. It is thought, however, that things will be in working order soon. Certain newspapers in Georgia will go into spasms if the Sherman act is repealed by Congress. Well, they may prepare to do the spasm act. And now they are telling around that Marion county, Ga., never pro duced a bale of cotton or bought a pound of fertilizer. Where is Mar ion county at? The Gainesville Sun says: “Some men seem to always forget they owe newspapers a bill when called on for payment. They never forget to find some fault of the paper.” We desire to notify Editor Wrench, of Brunswick, that he can call on the Herald for anything he needs. Auy favor in our power will be granted him. We cannot believe that there is a man in Waycross so utterly depraved, an iso completely devoid of truth and principle as to manufacture from whole cloth such falsehoods. If such reports have been sent out from Waycross they 4nust have emenated from parties who do not reside here. This same coward ly liar also reports a case at Helena, and another, a Brunswick lady refugee as \ having been sent from Waycross sick with the fever to the government quar antine camps by her relatives.
