The Herald learns that Ed Banks a
well known colored citizen of Way cross,
was shot by a policeman in Jacksonville
yesterday aud is in jail. We have been
unable to learn the particulars but learn
that Banks was on a “jag” and resisted
arrest. Banks’ wound is in the shoulder

The Tallahassee’s Officers Had
View of It.
The big aerolite which passed along
the North Carolina coast Wednesday
morning created a sensation at sea as
well as on land. The officers and crew
of the Eallahassec who were on duty
early Wednesday morning, had a good
view of the pyrotechnic.
The Tallahassee wa3 about fifteen
miles south of Hatteaas when the dis
play occurred. All who saw it agree
that it was without doubt the most phe
nomenal exhibition they had ever wit

A Runaway Match in Wayeross Tester,
day.
At the residence of XV. XV. Sharpe, in
this city. Sunday, Mr. C. M. Sharpe
was married to Miss Eva Driggers, of
Johnson Station, Rev. XV. H. Scruggs,
officiating. It was a runaway match. It
seems that Miss Driggers lives near
Blackslicar, but at the time of the elope
ment was visiting Mrs. Middleton, a rel
ative, at Johnson station. The old
folks, a step-father being among the
number, were opposed to Mr. Sharpe,
but the girl was true, and yesterday
morning the young couple, accompanied
by Mrs. Middleton, arrived in Wayeross.
License was procured, Mr. Scruggs was
sent for, aud at 9:30 o’clock the young
couple were married.

Hon. John C. Nichols Death

Blackshear, Ga., Dec. 25—Ex-Con
gressman John (J. Nichols died at his
home in Blackshear this morning ot
pheumouia. Blackshear has lost one
or her best citizen, the poor a substantial
friend and the nation one of her truest
statesmen.
Serious Accident.
Last Saturday little Charlie Cason,
son of Mr. W. A. Cason, was closing the
“big gate” at Jone’s old stable, when the

ficed on the altar of local politics. Frank
Folks will be Mayor of Wayeross, and
we intend to see that Dick Grubb is col
lector of the port of Darien or know the
reason why.
