j ^ PLANT WILL NOT RESIGN.
! Therefore Ilniues will,Not he President
of the System.
' New York, Aug. 7.—At the offices of
' the Plant .System, in this city, a reporter
. was told to-day that Mr. H. li. Plant
■ was out of the *city and that the rumors
of his intention of resigning the presi
dency of that system, were absolutely
unfoundtd. Consequently the report
that Vice President II. $. Haines was to
take Mr. Plant’s place, was said to be
equally untrue.
There have been many rumors recently
in regard to Mr. Plant’s resignation and'
Mr. Haines’ election as president of the
Plant System. The Herald publishes
these rumors for what they are worth.
We have this to say, however: in case
Mr, Plant should resign, the election of
H. S. Haines would be considered stiffi-.
cient cause in this section for a general
jubieee.

The fire department was called out at
1:45 this afternoon. A small blaze on
the roof of the kitchen of the residence
of Mr. Ben Jones, Sr., iu Old Waycross,
was the cause. The fire was extinguish

the hose companies arrived. It is sup
posed to have caught from the stove flue.
Very little damage was done. No one
