Mrs. Cynthia Griffin. relVt of the late
William Griffin, died thi* morning about
8 o'clock at ihe home of her daugLter. Mrs.
Ed Whilden, in south-east Waycroes. Mrs.
Griffin was about 85 years old. She has
been feeble for about seven months. The
interment will occur tomorrow morning at
Big Creek Baptist church cemetery near
Schlatterville. Mrs. Griffin was a consist-
ago, representing hitr. ent member or Big t'reek church, and she
.poisoned his wife it lived in the hope of being saved in the great
beyond. Mrs. (iriffln was a Miss istrickland.
For over half a century ?he and her hus
band resided neur Mulberry 'Grove near
Schlatterville. Their children'numbered
twenty six. eleven of whom are still living.
Mrs. J. R. Knight and Mrs. Ed Wliildon,
of this city were her daughters
-Vr. Griffiin was a soldier in the Indian
war, and within the last few years has been
receiving a pension because of her hus
band's service in the war.

Starke, Fla.. July US.—Henry Crosby,
who came to this place from Way cross,
Ga:, three weeke
self as a captalist, poisoned his wife
11 o’clock this morning, and committed
suicide by taking strychnine. The wife
only two weeks a bt^de, will recover.
Misrepresentation of financial abiliy is
supposed to have caused the tragedy.
Crosby recently cane here ostensibly
for the purpose of starting an extensive
turpentine business. He negotiated for
lands, and announced that a large sum
of money would be received by him yes
terday, which failed to arrive. Creditors
from whom he had borrowed small sums
were pressing him, and it i« supposed
that despondency at the failure of his
plans caused the act.
One version of the affair says Mrs.
Crosby took the poison herself voluntar
ily, haring agreed to commit suicide
with her husband.

He Was Fill of Lizards.
A man named Collins in the little
settlement of Clifton Heights, in Dele-
ware county. Pa., was seized with nau
sea last Friday and ejected from bis
stomach thirty-six young lizzards, all
alive aud vigorous. The mystery is ex
plained by Collins himself, vho says he
swallowed the spawn of the reptiles in
pump water* How long it took the
spawn to hatch is not known by any
sign that manifested itself to Collins,
but after the batch came Collins be
came aware that something was queer
wi»h his anatomy. For two days he felt
ill and on Friday last he was attacked
by the nausea. The result was a string
of lizzards. Every one of them were
caught by Collius and he now exhibits
them alive to people who call on him to
hear about it.
Uncle Sam is preparing to send a de

In some of the cities of Europe the
cost of putting out a fire is made a
charge upon the property of the person
for whose benefit the fire department is

No one knew till a few days ago that
the bicycle is classed in the animal king
dom, but the iollowihg copy of a notice
posted all along the Lehigh canal gave
the informition: “Notice—Bicycles,
horses or anv other animals not allowed
on towpath ”
Editor Tison, of the Douglas. (Coffee
conn y) Leader, has been robbed again.
Tais time in Atlanta, and the sum taken,
he says, was $125. Editor Tison is the
only Georgia editor who has bad that
much mouey recently, aod we wonder
v here he got it.
