The Fire Alarm I Parker-Bihb Nuptials.
YESTERDAY AFTERNOON TH0U0H A, AN IMPORTANT SOCIAL EVENT THAT
FARCE SHOWED UP THE BOYS.
Thuasriur's daily
The Wavcross tire department
was called out nt 5 o’clock yes-
rerday afternoon by a false a i trm,
and the showing they made in
getting out was excellent. The
horses were in their stalls entire
ly unharnessed when the alarm
was first sounded. Within 80
seconds from the first, tap of the
bell the truck was out on the
streets. In 1 minute and 45 sec
onds the run had been made to
the English block on Plant Ave.
nue, and in 2 minutes and 20
seconds a strong stream of water
had been turned on.
The time is good considering
the fact that most of the firemen
are inexperienced and the horses
are just beiug trained. The
horses have already learned to
jump to their places under the
harness at the tap of the fire bell,
but one of them is a little slow on
account, of his having injured his
eye on the wagon when he was
fir9t. being trained.
It will be necessary for practice
for the department to be called
out often, and the fire committee
have arranged a signal to notify
the volunteer firemen and the
public when an alarm is false, or
when a lire has been extinguish-
ed. After the first alarm hns
been sounded, two quick taps,
followed a few sedondsafterward
with one tap, will be given to
signify that there is no fire.

sician, Dr. D. C. Mitchell, was
going on, across the street. No
cause can be assigned for the
double killing. Mr. Kilgore was
formerly chief of police of a Chat-
tanooga, Tenn.
Rial la Russia.

nesses were Mrs. J. H. Mather
