A Runaway Marriage.
WELL KNOWN YOUNO MAN OP THIS
CITY STEALS A PRETTY OIRL.
The Valdosta Times has the follow-
<r<? article in regard to the marriage
of Mr. John M. Cranorof thiji city
Httday night:
“The Presbyterian manse was the
scene of a wedding a little after tnid-
night Sunday night, the only wit*
nesses to>the event being Ordinary D.
M. Smith, who aold the license,, and
Rev. Cbas. C. Carson, who performed
the ceremony. Th? couple are said .to
have been runaways, but that fact was
not known to Rev. Mr. Carson until be
was Informed of it by a Times reporter.
The groom had perfected his arrange
ments for the wedding with such in«
finite skill as to forestall any suspicion
that he was the chijf actor in a run
away match. Last Wednesday he mat
Mr. Carson here and made arrange
ments for the wedding, explaining to
him that he and his intended bride
would reach Valdosta on the triin
Sunday night, and that they wished
the ceremony performed at once. Sun
day night, as the train Wrom Way cross
slowed up at Homeryille, the intended
groom was swinging down on one of
the lowest steps looking intently for'
the young woman who had promised
to meet him at the train. Ay soon an
the train came to a stop the youtog
lady walked hurriedly to the coach
and was'helped up the
young man, Mr. John M. Craner

Miss Irene, Smith, a daughter of Mr.
Seward Smith, and one of the prettiest
young ladiea in Clinch county. Ac
cording to the story which reached
Valdosta, the father of. the youqg wo
man was ve**y much opposed to her
Carrying. Mr. Cranor was a wel
comed visitor to the home until It was
learned that his intentions were ser
ious. Then the father passed a law
forbidding him enteriog his yard.
That law baa been in effect for some
time and Cranor has made biniself
scarce. But love usually finds a way
in matters of this sort, as the result
shows. ‘Sunday night, while the old
people were asleep, Mis- Irene left
, home and In leas than two hours was
married to the man of her choice oyer
thirty miles avyay. The couple re
turned to Wayoroes, which will be
their future home. The groom is a
prominent lumber dealer and is well
known throughout this section.”
