and trembling.
Now, us a citizen of Waycross
and as a tax-payer, I ask pro
tection against such outrages,
and ask if it is not possible to
arrest these vagruuts and send
them to the chain gang for
twelve months, (the extreme
limit and in this way protect
our homes and our wives from
such insults. We can read dai-
4v of horrible crimes committed
by tramps, and it may soon be
our misfortune to have our com
munity shocked by the commis
sion pf some terrible e:ime per
petrated by some of these char
acters.
Already we have had a mur
der committed by (hcpi, and a
few nights ago one of the fra
ternity entered Miss Remsharis’
house aiid committed a bold
robbery. Now, would it be un
reasonable to expect the perpe
tration of rape on sonic helpless
woman, by one or more of them
as our streets litterally swarm
with them day and night.

this is no idle squib, but a seri
ous matter, and demands your

The Ladies 9 Festival.
The festival at Krom's ball
last Tuesday night, gotten up
by the ladies of the Baptist
church, was a success, over one
hundred dollars being raised by
the sale of a lamp, given to the
mortt popular lady, which was
voted Miss Ellie Brewer, not
iinly one of the most popular,
but one of the cleverest ladies
we know. The young lady who
vied with Miss Elbe in the con
test is not less attractive, we are
told, and made the affair very
interesting, »n the strength of
her admirers and friends. Other
sums were raised p> other ways,
and the verdict goes out that
the whole affair was a brilliant
achievement for those in charge,

The new Council meets again
next Tuesday, when we suppose
the different committees will be
assigned their respective duties.
The body is composed of such
good timber that we have no
fears about the wrong man be
ing put on any responsible place,
for ihe “wrong” man is not on
the list.

Town Ordinances.
The town ordinances need
codifying, because as they now
stand with the numerous amend
ments, we doubt very much if
there are hall a dozen men in
the incorporation that know the
entire laws of the town. We in

this important subject, not dic
tatorial but suggestive, with due
respect.

Arrangements will soon be
made, we understand, to estab
lish a system of telephone com
munication for the business men
of the town. The S., F. & W.
t. R. is at the head of this eu
terprise, and we ina\' put it down
as assured.

Trains east and south have:

few days, running entirely out
