••BRUNSWICK BY THE SEA.”
A few hours in Brunswick last Sun
day week, convinced us that ‘‘the little
city by the sea” is on a regular boom.
More than thirty new residences have
been built there in the past year, sever
al laige atoms (fife'proof) have been
erected and are going up in the same
time. Gas and water-works are l>cing
constructed, the city has already two of
the finest artesian wells in the South.
The B. & W. R. R. shops, machine and
car-works are being built and general
signs of improvement are seen on even-
hand.
An a shipping point Brunswick pos-
•sosscs the nest harbor on the Georgia
coast and in view of this fact large quan
tities of lumber, naval stores, cotton,
Ae., , are being sent to all parts of the
world from this point. We arc proud
of Brunswick, we like her clever peo
ple, her energetic, jovial newspaper
men, (we failed to see them) her thrift
and determination for recognition, and
we are particularly fond of her artesian
water.
Mr. and Mrs. H. H. McAlister hav<
our thanks for courtesies, and in this
connection we would inform the citizens
of Brunswick that there are none more
loud in their praise of the city by the
sea than Henry If. McAlister.’
During our visit we had the pleasure
of meeting Mrs. Keenan, an estimable,
refined lady of that place, and Mintcr
Edwards, Benton Byrd and Eddie
Greer, formerly of Coffee countv. All
contributed to make our short visit
pleasant and create with us a desire to

the Committee, apoointed by the
Grand Jury at the November Term 1885,
to examine into the financial standing,
and condition of public property and
records and vouchers of the different of
fices of the county, submit the following
report of the same: We find the coun
ty out of debt up to sitting of court ex
cept ninety-six cents as shown by Treas
urer’s report. We find that the books,
records and vouchers of the different
county officers were neatly and correctly
kept with some discrepctancies in the
office of the ex-Ordinary, in which case
- eral orders for money did not appear
record, with some few amounts col
lected by him for taxes of which we
found no account, nor could not defi
nitely arrive at the same, also an order
to Spangler for tin, made in two differ
ent places for same article, and an or
der to John A. Cribb for insolvent eost
paid from general county fund, which
should have been paid from funds aris
ing from fines and forfeitures. We find
the dockets of the Justices of the Peace
correctly kept with cost bills properly
itemized, with some informality as to
the docket of W. A. Wright Justice of
the 1231st district. We found in hands
of the Sheriff $434 40 arising from sale
of Wild Lands, which was turned over
to Warren Lott, present Ordinary, and
$12 70 on hand from County Court fund,
after paying all expenses up to sitting of
Fall Term of Court. We recommend
that the County Treasurer keep an in
solvent cost booK, so that funds arising
from fines and forfeitures may not be
mixed with the general funds of the
County. All of which is respectfully
submitted.
