Chill and Fever
Remedy
There being such a great demand
jfor Fever remedies in this country,
I have been making a special study
^of the different remedies used in
smalarial troubles ever since I have
jbeen in the drug business. I de
termined last Fall upon putting up
some preparation that would cure
ithe majority of eases of Fever,
Ague, Chills, etc., and that would
’take the place of a great number of
(Northern and Western Fever and
Ague remedies, believing that one
[living in this section is capable of
preparing something that is better
jfor the peculiar class of fever and
the debilitating condition of the
’system that prevails during the
Summer months. I have far ex
ceeded my expectations— Last
Spring I began to manufacture
JENNINGS’ FEVER TONIC.
Since which time I have put up
land sold several thousand bottles,
and IT HAS NEVER FAILED TO CURE
ix a single instance. Meeting
[with this unprecedented success I
feel perfectly safe in placing a
[GUARANTEE upon EVERY bot
tle ; so, when it is taken according
’to the directions and it docs-not cf-
jfect a cure the money will he re
funded.
The regular practicing* physi
cians of the country have examin
'd the formula of Jennings’ Fever
Tonic, and pronounce it efficient
nd harmless.
I place before the public only a
few of the great number of unsolic- |
jited certificates received in regard
[to its cures.

Ladies and Gentlemen of this vast uni
verse.—This case is certainly the most
important that lias ever come before
us for consideration, and demands our
undivided attention. It is by no means
a new issue, for, as far back as we can
trace the true science of medicine, we
can also see that this evil has existed:
—this claim of some to have “discover

known only to themselves and some ig
noramus from whom they learned how*
to make their panacea—1 need not tell
the intelligent how uterly false sueh
claims are, both as to the origin, and
value of these nostrums. We think the
test of merit is the only fair test, and the
universal sentiment is that every one

tition in the manufacture of’ medicine
to the extent that it 1ms for its primary
object the placing of the best article
upon the market, establis he s
the legitimate place of a preparation
on its merits. To ward off
such competition by claims of a secret
known only to the manufacturer, is to
substitute false recommendations for
true ones, and to elevate the inferior to
a par with that which is first-class.—
We have positive evidence, also, that
many of these • nostrums are actually
dangerous to human life, notably, a
carefully compiled statistic on the sub

der period of 'childhood estimates that'
Treaty Thousand Childreni
Are annually killed outright by the use
of so-called “Soothing Syrup/’ “guar

of this, gentlemen and ladies of the
great Jury of Public Opinion, see the
loving mother dropping the vile opium
mixture that is to kill her child, worst
of all with her own hand murdering her
innocent babe, laboring under the de
lusion that “it contained no opium,”
and yet analysis shows that a certain
popular “soothing syrup” does contain
a large, dangerously large! proportion
of laudanum and 20,000 children are'es
timated as being the number that are
each year swept into the grave by it and
similar preparations, “said to contain
no opiate.”
Pysicians turn away in disgust, from
all such vile mixtures, as they have no
means of judging of their applicability
and are not willing to give blindly an
unknown mixture which may be worth
less, may l>e dangerous and might
possi hly gnit the diseases for which it
was recommended, hut no certainty
exists as to the strength or uniformity
of the preparation^ it is a secret, or pat

Such claims, however, are short-lived
for the public, though deceived for tlio
time cannot always be hoodwinked, and
are fast finding out the hollowness of
pattent medicine boastings. The truly
meritorious cannot be cried down nor
can it be retarded, it is a part of the
march of progress, and the only way to
meet it is to do better than others, in
all departments where experience,
skill, productive facilities and commer
cial honesty are legitimate factors.
In keeping wtth this view of the man
ufacture of medicines which aie and al
ways will be in demand, a class ok
remedies have sprung up to meet a {
popular demand, I allude to non-secret
or remedies haring the formula on
them, thns enabling Physicians— who
are as a class oo busyto manufacture or
compound their own prescriptions,— to
inspect them and recommend them in
cases to which they are suited. The
people who take such preparations are
enabled to Know what they are taking,
and what they may reasonably expect
to gain from them. Prominent among
this class of remedies I would call your
attention to PricKly Ash, Poke Root
and Potassium, compound (P. P. P) as
a remedv of rare merit, being composed
as it is of the fluid extracts of Prickjy
Ash, Poke Root, .Stillingia, Sarsaparil
la and containing the Iodide of Potas
sium, all well-known alternatives or
Blood Purifiers, carefully proportioned
and combined, so that each table spoon
ful represents an exact amount of each
of those valuable Blood Remedies. The
P. P. P. Mfg. Company use the green
Roots and Barks in making the various
FI aid Extracts and in this way secure
the full medicinal strength of each of
the vegetable remedies used. Physi
cians endorse it as a perfect Blood
Medicine and the public nud in it a re
liable remedy for Rheumatism, Scrofu
la, Syphillis, Old Sores, Malarial Pois-
ining and all broken down conditions
requiirng a powerful tonic and alterna
