Parson Allen, pastor of the A. M.

of the most respectable colored

the subject of building a Seminary

will make better citizens, be of
more benefit to themselves and a

This was our old home. We
lived there long enough to leam to
love the people, and to note their
posperitv and advancement gives
us pleasure. Wc went up there
last Sunday to hear Rev. Mr. Eth
ridge preach, in the commence
ment of a protracted meeting, this,
being also, his regular appointment
at that place. We found, on arrivoh
the neat 111 tie church pretty full,
among them familiar and strange
faces. The sermon was a good one
—a regular missionary sermon,
which had the effect of producing
the desired result for it softened the
hearts of the young divine’s hear
ers, and caused the good people of
that place to contribute handsome
ly toward the missiouary fund.
The assessment for that church
was $26,55, for this year, and $51,-
45 even, was subscribed and some
of that amount paid over, making
$24,95 more than was called for,
or nearly double the assessmsnb
This is an improvement ia the
right direction, and shows that the
church is in a healthy condition.
