We are carrying more reading matter than any other dollar, all home print pa per in the state, still an old friend of ours asked us a few days ago why wo didn’t give more reading matter and make the whole thing better. If a man gives his time and all the spare money lie can raise to an enterprise and it docs not give satisfaction, would it not he a good idea to help him with something bosides criticism ? If we can’t please, we would prefer a withdrawal of the pat ronage given to the criticisms we are subjected to in order to retain the favor. Editor Headlight:—Perhaps if you will give space in your columns, 1 may interet some of your readers. A few days ago, near Sweat’s mill pond, Mr. John C. Highsmith was riding along the road, and saw a very large bear cross just in front of him. He wont at once for help aud in a short while Messrs W. E. (the great bear hunter) N. J. Smith, Jes- sie R. Booth, and Ivey Davia were at the place where Mr. II. first saw the bear, a dis tance of five miles from the Okefenoke swamp. They had a lot of fine dogs and away they went for the swamp. It was night, aud about one mile away in the swamp when the dogs treed their game, but the hunters took a light and soon came np with the dogs and bear, aud at once the old “cuff” began to come down. They fired several shots at him and he fell, but not dead, when Mr- N. J. Sweat fired and shot him through the heart killing him instantly. They all report him to be the largest they ever saw. I saw one of his feet and also ear, and they wero- the largest I have ever seen. Mr. Smith thinks he would have, weighed between three and four hundred pounds. For you to spare a few days and go bear hunting would greatly please your correspondent. Tab Herl. Parrish’s boat to gather np logs broken loose from a raft when Parrish came along.
