Charged With Serious Crime
J. A. Rivers, a well known
negro preacher among his race
in Waycross, who Med from here
about throe mouths ago, being
charged with committing a crim-
nal assault on a little negro girl,
was arrested this afternoon by
Deputy Sheriff Vt oodard and po
liceman N. J. McClellan and
lodged in jail. The officers kept
tho matter quiet, and, Rivers, it
appears, thinking that the
charges against him had been
dropped, returned to the city,
with the result that lie will now
have to face the court on a very
serious charge.
