The Russians seem to loose as many men running away from the Japs as they do lighting Togo’s/ships. Depow says a great victory is coming. He evidently moans a victory for the (rusts and the monery power. Sensational preachers rarely ever do the cause of Christ any permanent good. The average sinner is not converted by abuse. In trying to undo the work of tho Stale Democratic Convens tion, Spoaker Morris lias made big mistake to say the ioast of it. Says an Exchange: Tho girl who lias a now shirt waist suit doesn't cure a rout who is going to ho tho next president. It wouldn’t worry her if they didn't havo presidents. The Japs are better soldiers and better fighters than the Russians, and can whip the Czar’s troops on land or on sen, on foot or in the saddle. Hurrah for the little brownies! The Russians now charge the Japs with cruolty. We do not believe the charge is true; at any ruto, it would only he tho pot calling the kettle black, for Russian brutality is well known. Gov. Terrell Inis written a let tor to the War Department at Washington, requesting that the number of men to bo allowed Georgia at tho Virginia encamp ment bo increased from 1,500 to L’,800. Says an Exchange: Tom Reed, the big brainy bulldozer, quorum counter, and speaker of congress, never complimented hut two men in his whole life — Oliupr Cromwell and Henry G. Turner Cantaloupe shipments are keeking the growers in a rush, Tho fruit i- ripenin 'fast, and it is not an easy matter for packers to fully meet the demands that are being made upon them.— Al bany Herald Soutli Carolina wants Italian farmers to settle her coast country ami sea islands. This arrangement night interfere with tho lazy negroes who ttU ready claim {south Carolina’s coast country. WAR IS HELL. The Russo-Jap war continues with unabated interest and more or less sad casualties, sad to re late. That nations feel called upon to maintain t portfolio of war is the remnant—and a good sized remnant—of the savage yet in us. Peace hath its victor, ies no less renowned than war, and why not peace—peace on earth and good will to men all the time? We recognize there is more or less belligerency in the human breast all the time, but there is no sense in keeping a chip on our shoulders and a rock in our pockets looking for trouble. Nations are like tpen and women and need chastise ment at times, but the need never rises to the provocation of slaughtering men, and even poor dumb brutes by wholesale. Truly, as General Sherman said, “War is hell.’’—Dalton Citizen. Y7m7C. A. Boys Received In Brunswick Secretary A. G. Villee and the Junior Class of the V. M. C. A., whb left yesterday for a ten day’s outing on St. Simons, wero met by a committee upon their arival in Brunswick and heartily welcomed to tho 1 ‘City by tho Sea.’ Speaking of the lmppy boys’ ar rival in Brunswick, yesterday's Brunswick Journal says: ‘ Bubbling over with expecta tion and delight of a ten days outing on St. Simons, tho Junior Class of the vY ay cross Y.
