OORMAN FOR CHAIRMAN. Senator Arthur Pue Gorman, of Maryland, has been asked by the Democratic leaders to head the national committee. And art. imiiiimii a pKuMitioo mam mm»i I search where they would, they •iiir. ru wmnr Stall me a»a»r. !could not have found a more as- J tuto and brilliant pastmaster of the game political. Some men acquire political skill; others are horn with it Gorman is one of the natural leaders, and liis inherent talent lias been developed and sharps ened in many a spectacular and eitantic combat in the national arena. As a campaign manager his ability to grasp the situation liis energy and his vast experis ence should make him a most valuable general. The Maryland leader has not forwarded bis acceptance but the very fact that he was fixed upon at the New York conference gives the lie to all those random preconvention canards which represented hint as antagonistic to the dominant Parker element Gorman is not and never lias been out of accord with the party and no man is more willing to further the interests of complete harmony. If he fails to accept it will be for some other roason, and for seme reason that will be generally acclaimed as sufficient when it is made public.—At- lanta Journal. Insurance That Insures. The friends of Japan would welcome war between Kugland and Russia. This is tho year in which wo are going to do the Republicans up in line shape. Keller says lie was only test' ing the Btrengtli of tlio Japanese when he lost 2,000 men at Motion He paid well fur liis experiment. The arrest and detention of Knglisli vessels by Russia is simply another outbreak of the latter’s tyrannical and overhear ing policy. A good idea from the Macon News; It is high time that the blows which Democrats have boon delivering upon another should fall upon the Republican puny. Surely there is enough in that organisation and its pros ideiiti.il candidate to arouse ill Democrats, radiant and eonser- ativo alike, the spirit of enthiis I astir opposition.
