Ni;p*d la tbe/Bad by Sheriff Miller.
Tbe Herald leans with pleas
ure that 3beriff Miller put a
quietus yesterday to the u:
attempt to organize squads for
the purpoie 01 selling their votes
to the highest bidder. Tbe sher
iff informed some of tbe leaders
of this move that if they sold
their votes they would be dis
franchised and disqualified for
further participation in demo
cratic primaries, and that other
steps might be taken against
them under the state law. It is
reported that these parties tiien
voted for the democratic nomi
nees. There was no attempt by
any one to buy vetes yesterday
but there cau be no doubt that
as usual there were white votes
here for sale and Sheriff Miller’s
admouition was timely and
proper. The buying and selliug
of votes in Ware county is a
burning shame and a disgrace
upon our commonwealth and is
likely to bring somo serious po
litical disaster upon us in the
future. The Herald conceives
it to bo the duty of the county-
executive committee to preserve
the purity of the ballot at the
primaries, as far us in their pow
er lies, and we now suggest that
when another primary shall be
called under their supervision
that they take special steps to
put a stop onco and fo- good to
this pernicious and degrading
crime. The county executive
committee c.in put an end to the
buying and selling votes in Ware
county nnd it is plainly their
duty to do so.
