Turn out Monday and hear'*' - ooUd <rmber.—Ocilla Dispatch. asked us several times recently. An editor, especially the writer, generally knov.s everything or pretends that he does, but this time (he thing that we didn't know was Findlay, However, we are al ways ready sad anxious to learn, and during the past few days have been studiously and prayerfully at work on the Findlay problem. Our investigations have resulted in the wonderful discovery that at one time,in the days that are past, Findley A. 11. actually had an ex, istencc in the classic metropolis Irom which we write. The old history, however tails to furnish us any definite information in regard to the profession or calling follow ed by the party who now seeks * little cheap notoriety by claiming that he is a candidate for congress against the democratic nominee, Wm. G. Brantley. One inform ant states that he was a sort of a prepchcr, another says that lie was the tail end of the populist procession, and still another avers that he belonged to the street walker brigade, whoso headquar ters were at John Doe’s' barroom. Be this it may, the incontrover tible fact remains that Findley Ar- B. was “here in full force. Dr. Folks, the old doctor, was mayor ot the town, ,and Findlay A. B. was lull of busthcad. In this con dition lie collided with a police man in whom wc will call Hodges. Hodges attempted to straighten him oui,and threatened to put him in the lock-up. Outraged at the treatment ot the' cop and boiling over with righteous indignation, Findlay A. B. ialormed the officer that lie would immediately apply to Mayor Folks for permission to whip him. He did so and ob tained, from the accommodating official, a written permit ‘■which read as follows: , \Vaycross t Qa. To Whom it May Concern: The bearer of this permit, A B. Findley, is authorized to whip Policeman Hddges on sight pro> vided he is able to do so,. j.oti W. B, Folks, Mayor. Findlay soon found Hodges And presented the permit. The cbp reorganized the mayor’s authority and no tune was lost in arranging preliminaries. Findlay sailed'in and tbe circus opened at once and in about three minutes by. the watch Hodge* had wiped,up the face of the earth with Findlay for several yards around. Findlay fin ally crawled up by the aid of a lamp pqst, and gathering the frag ments pf himself and his apparel together as best lie could, retired presumably disgusted, and cer tainly Very much disfigured, from the scene, _ Next morning the mayor was seated in his office when Findley came in on a crutch, one arm in a sling, a black patch over his closed left eye, his head bun dled up in rags, and his face dis figured beyond recognition. “Doctor, ’’said-Findlay, “1 found Hodge-," "I see you did," said the mayor. And thus the episode closed. When Brantley gets through with the said Findlay, wo may take his pictuie again.
