FEVER SITUATION
IN NEW ORLEANS
By Telegraph to The Herald.
New Orleans, Aug. 9.—Last night’s
yellow fever report was as follows:
New cases, 00.
Total cases to date, 605.
Deaths, 4.
Total deaths to date, 114.
New sub-foci, 17.
Total sub-foci to date, 114.
The sharp work of the federal hos
pital corps has been responsible for
the discovery of a larger unmber of
sub-foci than has been reported at
any one time, indeed, more than tor
any week previously.
This indicates that the work hereto
fore has been slipshod, and the real
investigators who are now traversing
the city have penetrated districts here
tofore untouched in u real searching
way. Dr. White has said that if be
knew the exact location of tho dis
ease, he could stamp out the fever In
side of thirty days. As the bottom
facts are now coming to the surface,
It is probable that the medical and
sanitary works will show better re
sults. Indeed, the small number of
new deaths In view of thd large num-
of new cases, has a favorable
showing, ami gives ground to the
hope that the fever Is yielding to the
treatment The government will send
malls around New Orlenas to avoid
detention by the quarantine regula
tions.
