Savannah, Ga., May 24.— Col. Dan
C. Kingman. United Stiles Engineer
recently trastarred .from Cleveland,
Ohio, hns returned to Savannah after
a visit to his old district, in which he
is still In charge. He is to be suc
ceeded finally at Cleveland by Major
A. McD. Townsend. The latter officer
came into prominence In the court-
martial of CaptO. M. Carter, and the
trial of Greene and Gaynor here by
giving testimony for the defense. The
fact that he had been given such a
fine assignment after others of Carter's
and Greene and Gaynor’s friends have
been sent to much les« desirable posts
has cmsed gome comment. Col Quinn,
who was in Savannah and testified for
Greene and Gaynor was dispatched
during the hearing to Sioux Fall,
which is a sort of Siberia of the Eng-
irteoring C^rp*. Others who wore
prominent In their testimony have
also been given billets less desirable
than those they held before. The send
ing of Major Townsend, to Cleveland,
comes therefore as a pleasant surprise.
We desire to direct the attention of
our readers to ton coming brief en
gagement In Waycross, of A. K. Haw*
kes, at "Dr. Seals Pharmacy."
This visit should not be confused
with those of the ordinary travelling
opticians or so-called eye specialists
(usually merely peddlers or fakirs.)
as it in df a strictly professional and
legitimate nature.
The firm of A. K. Hawkes, located
in Atlanta, Ga., is the originator of
the celebrated "Hawkes’ Spectacles
and Eye-glasses," and has been favor
ably known to the public for more
than thirty year*. As one of the lead-
lag optical establishments It has a
reputation throughout the United
States. Any statement made by this
old and responsible concern nuy be
entirely relied upon. Persona afflicted
with defective vision or eye trouble in
any form, would do well to avail them
selves of this opportulnty to consult
a strictly first-class optician. Re
member the dates June 4-5 6-7.
