Chicago, Nov. 2.—When Mr, Bryan
left for Kansas this morning he was
enthusiastic over his chances of suc
cess. He said he believed the big
gest surprise In their history was In
store for the republicans. The Coni*
moner seemed to be firmly convinced
that he would be swept Into office by
a great popular wave nnd that he
would carry states heretofore regard
ed as impregnable republican.
Some of the Democratic leaders
charge that the management of the
Lake Shore Railroad formed a delib
erate plan to make Bryan’s train late
Saturday night and keeping the can-*
dldate from attending six big meet
ings. The leaders wanted to lssuo a
statement denouncing the railroad but
Mr. Bryan refused to permit It unless
he had absolute proof.

OFFERED ON CHANLER
New York. Nov. 2.—Thirty thousand
dollars on Chanler was deposited at
the Hoffman House this morning and
is available for Hughes backers today.
While It was said that Chanler men
are seeking 10 to 9, It Is understood
that even money will be accepteu.

New York, Nov. 2.—The latest re
ports as to the condition of Dr. uulm»i
Thomas, who was Injured when his
aeroplane, which he built, was wreca-
ed, is that he was not seriously hurt.
TWO MORE SHOT
IN KENTUCKY FEUD
Lexington, Nov. 2.—-The Ross Anglo
feud, which has been smoldering for
the last few years, was reopened at
Hoidleberg, In Lee county, yesterday
and Ephiiam Angle and Harry Ross
arc at the point of death, each being
j the victim of the other’s bullet. Tho
I men met near a church and before
friends of either were aware of trou-
! ble f bullets began to fly.
Reports indicate that the two fac
tions are preparing for war totny.
The authorities have been notified of
the killing but so far no efforts have
been made to make an arrest, holding
that it will be time cnougn to take
net ion if Ross survives his wound.

OUT OF WORK, SHOT HIMSELF.
Chattanooga, Tenn., Nov. 1.—With a
bullet hole In ills head, the dead body
of John G. Jones, a locomotive fireman
of Atlanta, was found In a vacant lot
at 5 o’clock this afternoon. Jones had
taken 'his own life. He hud boon here
for about a week seeking employment

Moffett, tpe noted authoress and lec
turer, died today at the age of 62, of,
paralysis. She was a member of one
