In response to a call Issued by Col. Leon A. Wilson on October Z6th, 1908 to the stockholders of the Bank of Waycross, a large and representa tive gathering of theae stockholder^ met informally at the offices of Messrs. Wilson, Bennett & Lambdln. in Way- cross, on Saturday, November 7th, 1908 at ten o'clock a. m. On motion duly male and adopte^ Mr. Leon A. Wilson was made cnalr- man, nnd an acting sevrttary was ap pointed. The representative of the Receiv ers of the Bank of Waycross was pres ent nnd submitted a statement of the affairs of the bank, a3 of and Includ ing November 6th, 1908. From this rcjjort it appeared .that, the liabilities of the bank wore approximately $195,- 000.00, exclusive of the capital stock liability, and tho aseots were approx imately $315,000.00. It appeared that the liabilities of the bank on account of rediscount had been re duced to less than $15,000.00, and that the remaining liabilities consisted of Mr. lienrv O’Neil, aged 97 and po-.-j Idy -the oldest man In Thomas Coun j . died at hi* home near Pavo y rday. Toomer be requested and authorized to nppolnt a commit- ‘co of three to confer with the Rocelv '-rs of the Bank cf Waycross, and to examine carefully Into the affairs of GEORGIA AND REPUBLICANISM. The following !s ax: extract from a very fine diurnal which appears in i the Americas Recorder cf late date, j We coinmend Its perusal to weak- kneed democrats and durn fool, repub- j Mean leaders In this neck of tue! woods: "Over 100,000 Democratic wmte! voters of the State failed to go to' the polls on Tuesday. That Is the true meaning of the Georgia returns. The treater number doubtless did so in tho sincere belief that It wag un necessary, as Georgia was assuredly Democratic. Some thousands simply refused to vote for Bryan for a third time. Their opposition was to tne candidate, not to the party. In a genuine contest to the front, Georgia would poll between 175.0^0 and 200,- 000 white Democratic votes and the little coterie of Republican leaders would fine themselves submerged by j a hundred thousand Democratic ran-; Jority. | W<- doii’r blame the Federal office j holder* In Atlanta, Macon ami Sav- j annnb for setting up the preposter- j ously absurd claims they are now 1 making. They > have comfortable I berths, with good salaries attached. There is always some danger when a new administration comes in that they will lose their jobs unless they convince the powers that be that they, have really “made good.” A great bluff at tills time will help them i along after Taft Is inaugurated. Hence! the bold claims taat fire based cn | wind, the cheap assertions of what | has been accomplished, the wild con-! joctures of what may be done tr/o or | foui^ years henco.i And of course-' the white patriots whose mouths 1 water for a place at the pie counter [ aro not slow to yelp their endorse ment of such views and put In their claims for consideration. The people of tho North may be misled by such foolish braggadocio, the next administration may bo lead to believe that these '‘leaders” and "workers” have really accomplished wonders, but everybody down here in Georgia knows that their actual per sonal Influence all put together wouldn’t carry a single county If they did not have some money to spend and tho hope of political jobs dangle beforo tho eyes of greedy vo ters. The idea that they can cvci carry Georgia is a rank absurdity Bryan runs no more, and Under a new lender Georgia will retire the Repub lican party in this state to Liberty and McIntosh counties, where the negroes outnumber the whitea about ten to one.
