(or fifteen years a clerk at the Screven
House was given a trial yesterday In
the city court upon the charge of un
due familiarity witfytwo little girls in
Colonial cemetery and In" the afternoon
the jury returned a sealed verdict
finding him guilty.' The arrest of Bell
created a great deal of surprise as he
was known to many Savannahlans
who had no Idea he was a man of
such character as the testimony show
ed him to he. The verdict of guilty
caused even more Surprise to those
who had not followed the case (or they
were certain he would be acquitted
with an Investigation by a jury. Bell
was fined $100 or one year on the
chain gang by Judge Freeman ot the
City Court.
