Albany, Oa„ July 22.—Minor J. Win chester, the. young clerk of the Cl'l- sens First National Bank who disap peared last Friday night, after an a!- leged shortage In his accounts had been discovered, returned to Albany voluntarily this morning to face the charges and attempt to muse good the shortage. He has been in Atlanta Blnce last Saturday, he says, having registered ut the Hotel Scoville under bis owu name. “When, 1 realised that the shortage was about to be discovered,’’ said Winchester, "I was In an extremely nervous condition. I could not sleeu and could think of nothing but bsw I was to replace the money. In des peration I decided to go to Atlanta and try to borrow enough from friends there to make good the shortage. I left on the Seminole Limited early Saturday morning, changed cars at Columbus and went .direct to Atlanta. H. Jacobs and Dr C. H. Dobbs, field Inspectors for the Geor gia State Board of Health. They are now completing their tour of Inspec tion of tho section about Waycross, and have been in the field since early In May. Up to the first of the month the in spectors namod had their attention brought to 1,055 cases, of which 672 were positive. The worst section yet visited was in Emanuel county, where In one town 42 of 43 oases Inspected were positive. The Infection in tho cases observed to date has been very varied, running from light to heavy. Pracltcally all negroes residing l n the rural districts have or have bad the disease, but appear to suffer but lit tle from it. Probably one of the worst examples of what the hookworm will do for a person was found by the Inspectors in Dougherty county. A boy 10 years old was found heavily Infected. Hol weighed only 81 pounds, and ln height measured but four feet, seven Inches. His complexion was such a palor that It could be easily told without an ex amlnatlon that ho was suffering with some kind of j yesterday. Gen. Crosier, chief of o“- ’ dluance, U. S. A., who attended thr practice nr.d who has been in touch with the Inquiry made by the InvesM- gating board. Never before In the history of the army had the device failed to work. The possibility of Its occurence was I demonatggted, however, by Qen. Co zier himself shortly after the accident, by a test made bt all the’guns which participated In the practice.
