That Waycross has made tremen dous strides in recent years is the opinion of two well know n citizens of Savannah, who were here yester- dttajy. As guests of the Board of Trade they were taken over the cit>, visiting the various mills and the immense shops of the Atlantic Coast Line. The gentlemen visiting here were Dr. R. 8. Reid and Charles V. Hernan dez,, assistant clerk of Council. They were so impressed with Waycross that they delayed their return to Sa vannah in order that they might see the entire city before leaving. Mr. Hernadez had never stopped here be fore. but stated that he felt as if he had because he had heard so much of Waycross. While neither of them said they felt that Waycross would eventually pass Savannah in point of size they cast longing eyes at the railroad shop* and other big industries, congratulat ing Waycross upon possessing such plants. SEFKiNGifEW WAYTO MAKE PAPER GOVERNMENT TO BUILD AN EX- PERIMENT STATION IN WIS CONSIN FOR TESTING WOOD Wausau, WIs., Aug. 27.—Contracts were filed today for the building In this city of a Government experiment station for testing wood pulp. A fire proof building will be constructed within sixty days. As soo n g» special machinery Is Installed the work of testing Wisconsin wood for paper making will begin. The Government will apend $40,000 on this plant the first fiscal year. The Forestry service believes that this testing plant will develop meth ods and material for making paper PARTY PLANS TO GO FROM WAY- CROSS MONDAY. Present plans indicate that Way- cross will have a largo delegation pie*- ent at the Macon confrence about the round the state tour. This vonforence it to be held Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock at the Macon Chamber of Com merce, and will be largely attended by good rofui enthusiasts from all ever the state, particularly from South Georgia. It is understood that among those going from Waycross Monday will bo J. T. Watt, in his Rnmbler, L. B. Har rell, in his Maxwell, Calvin W. Park er, In his Bulck W. H. Buchanan In his Bulck, Dessau Bunn, in his E. M. F. “80"; and F. H. McGee in his Bulck *A17"; and Fred Brewer in his Bulck. Others may Join the party before Monday, giving Waycros the represen tation that will bo needed to insure Waycross remaining on the route for the fall contest. Douglas and Baxley r two towns pulling for a change in the route that will eliminate Waycross, aro planning to send strong delegations to Macon meeting. However, with Waycross properly represented, the change won’t take place. The very fact that ths route via Waycross Is switched would hurt this section, and the object of the delegates In attending the Macon gathering will be to prevent any such change being made. ELEVENTH DISTRICT CONGRESS IONAL CONVENTION. At Valdosta Wednesday August 31 the LVIcventj, District Congressional fonvention will meet. Notice to this effect having been sent out by Judge C.
