London, Aug. 20.—An official dis
patch received by the British govern-
' mcnt this afternoon from Berlin states
that Germany has rejected Japan’s
ultimatum demanding the surrender
of Ktao Chau to China. Germany
chooses war with Japan.
The Japanese ambassador has been
i presented with his passports and left
** Berlin early this afternoon. Official
declarations from Berlin and Tokio
are expected during the next 24 hours,
BELGIANS LEAVE
CITY OF BRUSSELLS.
Brussells, Aug. 20.—Belgian forces
are this afternoon falling back tow
ards Antwerp. The troops are evacu
ating Brussells rapidly.
An official statement was issued this
morning admitting that Germans are
making rapid advances in Belgium.
It is intimated that the forts at Liege
have fallen. There 1* » «trong force
of cavalry in Belgium and the Ger
mans are able to make a great show
by extending to the north and south.
Hundreds of wounded Belgians
poured into the city today. It is re
ported the Germans are showing al
most superhuman bravery under
• withering lire. Though suffering
heavy losses the Germans are contin
uing their advance.

Paris, Aug. 20.—Determined resist
once by Germans has checked the ad
vance of the French right wing Into
Alsace and Lorraln. The War Office
today admitted that Townville has
been captured by the Germans, who
are fortifying there. Germans made
a desperate fight for victory, losing
heavily.

Antwerp, Aug, 20.—German cava!
ry attacked Belgians on the outskirts
of Antwerp today, according to offi
cial announcement They were driv
en back. German cavalry were also
repulsed at Turnhout and Herenthals.

BIG LAND CASE
IS DECIDED
The caso of T. H. Teel and L. L.
Britton vs. A. I. Griffin, brought by
Attorneys John S. Walker and An
drew B. Estes, for the recovery of
land No. 63 in the 8th District of
Ware county, in which Judge Sweat
represented the defense, was tried at
the December term 1912, of Ware Su
perior court, before His Honor, T. A.
Parker and a Jury empannelled to try
same, when a verdict was rendered
in favor of the defendant, whereupon
the plaintiffs moved for a new trial
which was refused and thereupon the
case was carried to the Supreme
Court. The case was argued some
time ago and on Tuesday the Supremo
Court handed down a decision affirm
ing the judgment of the court below
in favor of the defense.

Hon. James I. Summerall, who has been nominated for Judge or the
Superior Court or the Waycross Circuit by a good majority of tho popular
vote which governed the Judgeship race.
At the present time Judge Summerall lives at Blaekshear, 1'ierco
county, but in ail probability he will move to Waycross soon aftor his
term of office begin In Junuary. He was born in Appling county in 1864,
his parents moving to Pierce county when he was a boy 4 years old. Dur
ing his manhood Judge Summrall has served in jubllo office for a great
many years, having been county ordinary, and tax receiver pf Plerco
county.

At the county executive committee
meeting today It was decided to leave
the selection ot delegates and alter
nates to the state convention to a
committee composed of James Sin
clair. W. W. Lambdin, W. E. Birmans
and E. G. Jones.
This afternoon the committee met
and selected all Its members as dele
gates, with 4he following alternates:
Jerome Crawley, T. J. Bailey, James
Cowart and John W. Bennett It Is
stated that the committee named del
egates and alternates who voted for
Anderson for governor and Hardwick
for senator for the short term.

E. Harrle, of Macon, la Georgia’* next
governor. He won over two oppon
ent* yesterday. Hardman was sec
ond, making a race that was the Mg

Ware county yesterday experienced
what is usually referred to as a bat
tle of ballots. Thu battlefield,
apeak, waa clearod today and the
county executive committee, In ses
sion for over an hour at the court
houne, canvassed the returns and pro
nounced to whom the spoils of the
battle should go.
Chief interest contercd around the
contest for governor, Short term sen
ator, congressman, judge of the supe
rior court, and treasurer, although
much interest was taken in *11 offices
for which there was a contest.
Ware gave Senator Hoke Smith a
majority so big that the race In the
county might bo termed ’’unanimous."
And reports from over the state today
show that he got almost the same

Anderson for Governor, Walker for
Congress, Summerall for Judge.
