Berry will be glad to know that their young son who was operated on for appendicitis at the King's Daughters' Hospital is doing nicely. Hallowe'en Carnival. On Saturday evening a Huliowo'eu carnival will be held in the store on Pendleton street formerly occupied by the Union Tea and Coffeo Com pany. Just who is giving this affai is being kept a profound secret but at any rate it must not he confused with the oyster supper which LadieB’ Aid of the Presbyterian church will give on the ninth and tenth of November^ Theso are two separate and dir* act affairs and number of youp'^people have the o in charge for Saturday evening and lots of fun is in store for alt who at tend. Cotton Shower a Great Success. The Cotton Shower which wan en yesterday afternoon at the City Y. M. C. A. by the City Union of King's Daughters for tho hospital was a great success in every way. Tho reception rooms of the Y. M. C. A. were adorned with quantities “queen of the meadow” which com bined with opening cotton holla brought out with pretty effect the purple and white which are King's Daughters colors. The long table where the gifts were showered held a pretty oblong arrangement of cotton with its blooms. Receiving the guests were promi nent King’s Daughters workers en tertaining the callers in a delight fully Informal way. The cheerful Y. !. A. rooms presented a busy scene, for in addition to the lovely gifts of linen everybody had needle and thread and were very busily en gaged In marking each piece with the linen markers embroidered with “King’s Daughters' Hospital” which a thoughtful membor had had made for the hospital. During the afternoon delicious tea and sandwiches were served by a bevy of charming girls. Following is tho very substantial list of gifts received for the hospital yesterday: leather chair, 64 pillow-slips, J table scarfs, 10 sheets, 5 table cloths, 36 towels, 14 bath towels, 2 counter panes, 18 napkins, 4 operating gowns. 2 bureau scarfs, 1 bath mat, 12 tray covers, 35 yards sea island, $3.60 cash. Delightful Epworth League Social. One of the most delight&l events of the fall was the Epworth League Hallowe'en social which wffa glveu Monday evening by the Epworth Leagues of the First Methodist and Trinity churches, at tho beautiful country homo of Mr. and Mrs. T. Darling. The young people went out in machines and carriages early the evening and found everything most complete for an ideal Hal lowe’en party. The interior of the home was dec orated with pumpkins, cats, hobgob lins and other Hallowe’en symbols which combined with vases of bright autumn wood flowers presented perfect Hallowe'en picture. Many amusing games were played, possibly the one causing the most merriment being tho with’s wed ding, in which the participants in Bheets and otliej? array dear to tho hearts of witches and “spooks.” For tunes were well told in a cleverly decorated tent by a "true, true" witch or so it appeared until one saw the pretty face of the fortune teller. A mirror was arranged in which tho young people saw the features their futuro wife or husband. After all the sports indoors, th 1 merry party went outside where Immense fire burned on tho tennl. court. Here cane, nuts and other fall niceties were Indulged in. A ter rible locking witch stirred and brew cd a suspicious looking drink In huge Iron kettle, but it proved to be the most delectable fruit punch, Altogether the affair was a perfect one and will be long remembered by all present. About eighty young people enjoye* the evening. Miss Lila Dunn of Fairfax was the guest yesterday of Mrs. Harvey Bunn, Mr. Lewis L. Harvard spent today t Mexico and Durango. Mr. Edward Lary spent the day vis iting in Hoboken. Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Strickland will end Sunday in Douglas. C. E. Groover left ihis’tnorning r annah. Supt. 0. T. Waring of the Atlantic Coast Line spent yesterday in Bruns wick. Miss Marlon Wynne will be guost of relatives In Dlackshear for the week end. Mr. J. E. T. Bowden returned to day from a fow days visit to Atlanta and Macon. Supt. A. O. Miller and Mr. J. H. Gilloq, who attended the Masonic Grand Lodge meeting in Macon re turned to the city today. The many friends In the city or Mrs. May Bower will be interested to know that she is In training at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital. Mrs. Bower spent last year In the Ortho pedic Hospital in Philadelphia and it Is gratifying news that she will be in Waycross this winter. Little Miss Francis Pittman de lightfully entertained a few of her friends at her home on Brunei street Tuesday afternoon. The occasion was her fifth birthday. As the guests arrived they were served with punch from a very at tractive bowl and tablo decorated ith coral vine. Tho living room where tho merry-makers assembled for indoor games formed a pretty set ting of pink and whlto roses and fleecy sea myrtle for tho fresh young faces . A cheerful flro burned bril liantly in tho grate. Presently some one announced that there was something awaiting them In the dining room. Hero tho shades were drawn and Jack-o-lanterns cast weird shadows over a table sot with ud cream und festooned with coral vine. The birthday cako with its five pink candles was tho conspi cuous centerpiece. Each boy and girl was presented with a souvenir tied up In a Hal lowe’en napkin upon leaving the din ing room to hunt peanuts on the lawn. A box of candy was given to the one who found the moHt peanuts, while a toy dog consoled the one hav ing found tho smallest number. The little fel low was the only son of his devotod parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Maynard, and his going away has left an ach ing void in tho homo that cannot be bid farewell to their hostess who was billed. The coat was fin ished with plaits below the waist line and was worn with a wide black satin sash.
