When the great Siberian rail
road is completed and a liné is
built from the United States to

Mr. *‘Bud” Boss, a genial farm

the biggest watermelon of the sea- ‘
son to town last Saturday. It
weighed 68} pouads. Paradoxical}
as it may seem, Mr, Boss is ‘‘some
punkins” as a watermelon grower,
He has 40 hills of vines from
which he has gathered 100 melons
which averaged 50 pounds each,
besides many smaller melons,—
Warrenton Reporter,
In several of our exchanges we
see regularly the reports of county
commissioner’s meetings in neigh
boring counties, with an itemized
statement of receipts and disburse
ments. To every citizen in the
county this not only makes inter
esting reading, but it is informa
tion that each tax payer is entitled
to. And it is the duty of the
board of commissioners to furnish
the information to at least one of
the four county papers every
‘month. We have made this point
before and would like to reiterate
it often enough to impress the
truth on the honorable board.—

j There are no quiet times about
‘the Madisonian's office these days.
Besides the hum of the printing
presses on the inside, there is a cry
ing baby on one side, the discord
'ant music of the flying jenny on
‘another, the notesof a piano at
‘Hotel Morgan, the noise of the
laborers at the Buffalo warehouse
on another and the songs of the
prisoners in jail onanother. The
favorite songs of the latter are
‘l've Been Washed in the Blood
of the Lamb"” and ‘“Gallilee.”
We believe prisoners’ life should
be made as hard as humanity will
permit, but these boarders at
Sheriff Aycock’s hotel seem to get
a great deal of pleasnre out of
coufinement. There are some
thing like twenty prisoners in jail
now.—Madisonian. :

Indians Will Be At State Fair.
The Nebraska Indians, the
strongest aggregation of baseball
artists of the West, will play five
games of ball in Macon during the
‘State Fair,
~ The Red faces will line up a
gainst the Macon colored team
which is recognized as the fastest
colored team in the Southern
states. Games will be played
night and day. This will be the
first time that a full Indian team
has ever played on a diamond in
the Central City.
The contrct will be closed this
week., A purse of $1,009 will be
put up for the team winning three
games of the series. It will be
one of the greatest baseball fights
ever seen in the South. The
Macon colored team has only been
defeated but twice this season,
and it is said that they allowed
themselves to be defeated.
*‘Moots" at short, **Rabbitt” in
the box, ‘‘Swellie” behind the
bat, is a trio that is invincible, so
say those who know the game
from A to Z.
The Indians are natural born
sports. - They take to it like a
duck to the water. The games
that promises to be unusually in
teresting the two that will be
played -at night. The baseball
park will be brilliantly illuminat
ed by electric lights so that the
ball will be in view of the fans’
eye at all times. Itis the night
games that are feared by the col
ored players. The three day
games they expect to win. £
The games will attract thous-‘
ands as both teams can set a pace
that few ball teams can follow.—
