AGRICULTURAL SHORT COURSES

The State College of Agriculture
will conduct four shoit courses in ag
riculture from January 2 to January
14, inclusive. Special bulletins have
been issued announcing this more
fully and any at all interested should
write for one,.
The four courses are offered free
and without examination, The only
requirement is that the applicant must
be over 18 years of age and able to
read and write.
The courses offered are im cottton‘
industries, cereal produnction, animal
husbandry and horticulture. ~ln the
cotton course there will be ten lec
tures on soils, five on fertil'zers, five
on the cotton plant, five on cultiva
tion, five on cotton diseases, five on
cotton insects, five on chemistry of
cotton by-products, five ¢cn cotton ma

consists of 35 lectures and 10 dem- |
onstraticns in cereal judging. The.
lectures touch insgects injurious to
g'ain, seed selection and crop rota
tion.
The lectures on live stock farming
cons st of feed and feeding, breeds
and breeding, diseases of farm ani
mals, clinics showing administration
of hog cholera serum, ete, and dem
onstrations in stock judging.
The lectures in horticulture will
cover varieties of fru't, orchard man
agement, diseases of fruit, insects of
fruit. Demonstrations in spraying
fruit will be conducted,

farmers at cost and the results obtain
ed in localities where cholera was

several imnstances where cholera was
prevalent in a herd and many had
died, no more died after the serum
' was used.
The serum i 8 administered by
means of a hyperdermic syringe and
is injected directly into the blood by
penetrating the ham. A dose to be
used when cholera exists on the
lm‘emises. The cost of serum is 2 1.3
cents per ¢, c¢. (about 15 drops),
'which make treatment cost from 50
cents to 75 cents per hundred pounds
ilive weight. It is bottled in 40 c. ¢,
200 ¢. c., and 400 e¢. ¢. quantities and
costs SI.OO, $5.00 and SIO.OO per bot

Recovers Ring 18 Years Lost.
A class ring lost 18 years ago by
Mrs. J. H. Reese, when she was a pu
pil of the Lancaster high school, was
restored to the owner.
Mrs. Reese, then Miss Lella 1.. Ur
bam, lost the ring, which was engrav
ed with her name, while walking on
the lawn ®f her home. It was recov
ered by men resetting a fence.—Lan
