Special Committee’s Report.
We, the committee appointed by the
Grand Jury of the August term, 1916,
Jasper County Superior Court, sub
mit the following report:
We find various charges passing
through the bills passed on by the
County Commissioners that are not
justified by law and we recommend
these charges be confined to, the item
ized legal rates and amounts as
prescribed by law and not paid other
than the law specifically directs,
We find on the county chain gang
35 convicts, 8 white and 27 colored,
3 colored ‘convicts sick. The convict
camp, including cdoking department,
sleeping quarters and cars, all in good
condition and sanitary. e
We find 3 guards, 1 night guard and
2 ddy guards, 1 yard man, 4 road ma
chines, one in bad condition, 33 mules,
2 in bad condition, 11 2-horse wagons,
2 1-horse wagons, 1 three-way drag, 6
road drags, 4 wheel scrapes, 8 drag
scrapes, 2 2-horse plows, 1 concrete
mixer,. 1 15:30 gas and kerosene
tractor engine, 1 large tractor engine
out ‘of working order, 3 small tents,
‘1 mule tent, picks, shovels, axes, shop
tools, to the amount of about $300.00.
‘We find quite a number of hoes,
picks, shovels and other tools that
lcould be repaired at much less cost
than new ones,' and we recommend
‘that these be repaired. We find 11
‘hogs weighing from 100 to 250 pounds
each. Find also 1 cow and 2 dogs.
~ We find the pauper farm in splendid
condition; 4 inmates, 1 white male, 1
white female, 1 colored male and %
colored female, all clean. and well
cared for. We find the stove needs
repairing.
We have checked the books of the
following county officers and find re
ceipts and vouchers for all money re
ceived and paid out.
Ordinary, Treasurer, Tax Collector,
Sheriff, Supt. of County Schools,
Clerk Superior Court.
We find the county jail unclean and
unsanitary., Around the jail we find
many tons of coal. We recommend
that this c¢oal be securely locked in
the e'ncloszre for the gallows.
We find the vault in the Ordinary's
office very much crowded and we
recommend that the -vault be en
larged. -
Respectfully submitied.

THE UNIVERSAL CAR
We respectfully call your attention to the facilities we
have to offer for the proper care and repair of Ford cars.
Your patronage is solicited and all work entrusted to us
will be done efficiently and promptly..
As a general rule, outside of minor repairs and adjust
ments few garages are qualified to do the work which
falls within their scopé. The proprietors do not seem in
clined to invest monéy in proper working tools. Then,
Some cars are so built that the cars are very inaccessible,
which makes matters worse. — /
As an authorized Ford Sales and Service Station we
are naturally interested im the satisfactory operation of
yqur Ford car and you, no doubt, realize that it is to your)
best interest to bring your car to us when in need of ad
vice, parts, or repair work.
. We have not enough space to enumerate the many
reasons why you, as a Ford owner, should patronize our
Service Station but we want to particularly warn you in
regard to the imitation parts made by various concerns to
fit Ford cars which are being used indiscriminately by ir
reponsible garages ;
We sell only genuine Ford parts manufactured ex
clusively by the Ford Motor Company whose reputation is
ever at stake. Over 1,500,000 Ford cars are daily demon
strating the actual worth of the parts from which they are
made. This alone should induce you to deal with us,
