As a step to encourage courtship
and marriage, the Wortley district
council has closed two miles of coun
try lane near Ecclesfield, England,
to all but pedestrian traffic after
dark. Complaints had been receiv
ed that the motor traffic was mak
ing courtship impossible.

afternoon near here, guest of Mrs.

Mr. Thompson Kelly left two
weeks ago for Oak Hill, Florida,
where he will make his Winter home.
Mrs. Sallie Thompson left a few
weeks ago for South Georgia, where
she will spend the Winter.
Mrs. Eddie Lee Chaffin and chil
dren, Lucile and Robert Lee, spent
one day last week with Mrs, Dozier
Floyd, at New Rocky Creek.
Mrs. Irene Hodges and children,
Nina and Paul, spent Sunday with
Mrs. Homer Layson, near Prospect.
We regret to learn that Mrs. Roy
Leverett has been confined to her
room for the past week with a se
vere pain in her shoulder.
Although she is past 107 years of
age, Mrs. Joseph Churchill, of Hol
lister, Cal., still does all her own
housework and cooks the meals for
her husband, who is 89 years old.
A trapper in northern Ontario
successfully trained a pair of timber
wolves to draw a sled.

Submitting a proposed amendment
to the Constitution of Georgia to be
voted on at the General Election to
bé held on Tuesday, November 2,
1926, said amendment to authorize the
collection and preservation of rec
ords of Vital Statistics,
By His Excellency,
Clifford Walker, Governor,
State of Georgla,
Executive Department,

WHEREAS, the General Assembly
at its extraordinary session in 1926
proposed an amendment to the Con
stitution of this State as set forth
in an Act approved April 8, 1926,
RECORDS OF VITAL STATISTICS.
No. 17, Second Session,
An Act to amend paragraph two of
section six of article seven of the
Constitution of the State of Geor
gla, and for other purposes
Section 1. The General Assembly
of the State of Georgia hereby pro
poses to the people of Georgia the fcl
lowing amendment to the Constitution
of the State of (eorgia, to-wit: That
paragraph twoe of section six of arti
cle seven be amended by adding at
the end of said section, after the
clause, “and to provide for necessary
sanitation,” the following words, to
wit: “and for the collection and pres
ervation of records of birth, death,
disease and health.”
Sec. 2. Be it further enacted by
the authority aforesald, That if the
above proposed amendment to the
Constitution shall be agreed to by
two-thirds of the members elected to
aach of the two Houses of the General
Assembly the same shall be entered
on their Journals, with the yeas and
nays taken thereon, and the Gover
nor shall cause the sald amendment
to be published in one or more news
papers in each congressional district
of the State for two months before
the next general election; and the
Governor is hereby authorized and d!.
rected to provide for the submissioun
of sald amendment to the people at
said election. The persons voting at
said election in favor of said amend
ment shall have on their ballots the
words: “For ratification of amand
ment to Article 7, Section 6, Puara
graph 2, of the Constitution, providing
for the collection and preservation of
records of birth, death, disease and
health.” The persons opposed to this
amendment shall have on their ballots
the words: “Against ratification of
amendment to Article 7, Section 6,
Paragraph 2, of the Constitution, pro
viding for collection and preservation
of records of birth, death, direase,
and hea*™"” If a majoritv of the
electors qualified to vote for mam
bers of the General Assembly, voting
thereon, shall vote for ratification of
sald amendment, the Governor, when
he ascertains the same from the Sec
retary of State, to whom the returns
from said election shall be referred In
the same manner as in cases of elec
tions of members of the Generul As
sembly, to count and ascertain the
result, shall i{ssue his proclamation
for one insertion In one daily news
paper of the State, announcing the re.
sult and declaring the ratification of
sald amendment.
SBec. 3. Be it further enacted by
the authority aforesaid, that all laws
and parts of laws in conflict with this
Aot be and the same are hereby re
pealed,

fssue this my proclamation hereby
declaring that the proposed foregoing
amendment to the Constitution fa
submitted for ratification or rejec
tion to the voters of the State quali
fied to vote for members of the Gen
eral Assembly at the General Election
to be held on Tuesday, November 2
1926.
