Yole For Progress.
On the tenth day of December
the quaiified voters of Terrell
county will he catled upon to de
cide an imporiant issue.
1t is the ioptien ov rejection of
the court house Il The bill
cnntomp‘mtos the evection of a
modern court house—one that will
meet our prossing need. That
Tertell county is sacly in need of
‘& rew court house none can hardly
deny; that the time has come vhen
Ҥt should be built is also clear.
The pending measure doeg not
eantemyplate any extrav gant use
of money ;it will impose no very
onerous hurden on any citizen,
It i 8 ae liberal as any of the laws
under which other counties, some
of them near neizhbors, have
erected court touses that do honor
and credit to their citizens, It
presenta, in fuct, the question
whetlier Terrell connty wants a
decent court house, or whether she
is willinir to jog alorgin {he same
old-fushioned way.
It presents a chonce to choose
hetween the methods of a prosper
cus and progressive couaty and the
methods of a county withowt
either prosperity or pride, ‘There
is nothing which would give Ter
reii cou\\t‘y more character for
progress \nd enterprise, which
would do ‘more to quicken the
gpirit of pl&;iic enterprise among
her people, twan t) commit herseli
to a permanent improvement of
her public huildinzs. On the
other hand a refusal to do =o would
be a deliberate announcement that
‘Terrell county either does not de
gire to move fgrward in this essens
tial of a connly’s growth and pros
perity, or that she is not able to
do so. We are confident th-t
there is mo cpunty more bheloved
by it people than Terrell, ani
none whose improvement would
be more gratifving to its citizens.
There can be no douht that the
county is amply able to erect a
good, lasting, modern eourt house.
She is more prosperous to-day than
she ever was belore, The increase
in her population is steady and
rapid. ‘'the crowth of her agriculs
tural resources has been remarka
ble and continues with increasing
vigor, In every district rew,
handsome and comfortable farm
houses are being censtrocted. In
everything she is moving forward
far more rapidly than in the m
portant matter of public improve
ments. But we are connfien’. that
the eleetion on the tenth day o.
December will mark ihe beginning
of a were udvanced publie poliey.
Citizevsard tax-payers of Ters
zell, there should be no division on
this question. Lets all rise up s
pne man andstart the county on
the road to improvement hy an
overwgheluting vote and ercet o
Temple of Justice that will be a
souument of praise and honor to
the memory of this people! Such
a building would give uz a nore
exalted opinion of ourzelves and
aid in developing the wast and
bidden wealth of thisgrand county
of ours.

Propoesed Jobn 7. Clarke Memerinl,
The Bethel Assaciation, of which
the late lamented Judge John T,
Ctarke was the hionored Moderator,
recently met with the Salem church
in Cathoun county.
~ The Cuthbert Ilnterprise says:
i “A special memorial cominittee
appointed to draft suiiabl: resolu

for the memorial service. The

huedred and seventy dollars were
rmsed on the spot, and the matter
left with the executive commitie
to sclicit furiher contributions, and
have the cottage built.”
This setion on the part of old Bech

such a life inspives.

great loss which the Baptist

It is fitting, too, that such a
miemorial should stand in the shad
ow of Mereer, to which institation

talent, seeking to aid worthy young
men in their horoie struggle to ob
tain an education. Jie was the
friend of education, and his own
