OFFICIAL ORGAN OF THE COUNTY.
DAWSON, GA,,MAR. 23pr., 1892.
——————————————————————————————
NoxE of the candidates have checked
their baggage for Washington yet.
As the day approachlies for Terrell’s
primary the Congressional campaign is |
warming up. Things are getting lively.
THERE was a tableau when Sickles and
Longstreet met in Atlanta the other day.
“They fell into each other§’ arms and
weph.”
“ Tne Herald says ‘‘Albany girls
come high.” We don't dispute it. We
saw one in the neighborhood of six feet
high the other day.
Tur Constitution says that ‘“‘Cleveland
must retire.”” Grover will doubtless
take to the woods when this startling
announcement reaches him.
Tae man who wrote ‘‘Annie Rooney”
is in jail at Hartford, Conn. A long suf
fering public will ery out and say that
heis receiving his just deserts.
- Mg. CLEVELAND and Governor Flow
er, of New York, were in Marylane last
week hunting ducks, while Candidate
Hill was in the South hunting votes,
What a contrast!
Tue Atlanta Constitution has put on
a new dress and let out another tuck.
The Constitution is a hummer, anyway,
and is run by some mighty clever and
enterprising fellows.
Uncre ALr Conquirt left his Sena
torial duties and came down to Atlanta
last Friday to disseminate Democratic
doctrine of the Hill stripe. He is a Hill
henchman with a big H. £
Govenzonr JonNes issuing the Alliance
paper in Alabama for libel. If the sub
treasury plan was only in operation the
editor night bank a few turnips and draw
the *blood” the irate prosecutor wants,
Tue News is decidedly in favor of an
early convention in this congressional
district, and would respectfully ask the
executive committee to consider the
matter at their meeting in Albany this
month,
JUDGE GUERRY is holding Clay Supe-
Court this week, while Mr. Stevens is
shaking hands with the voters in one of
the lower counties. They have left their
friends behind, and the interests of each
is being carefully watched.
A Nortn Georgia editor has been
“gliding down the tide with a girl that
was sky-blue eyed, swith a new set of
teeth and bichloride curls—in fact, one
of the hummer sort of girls.”” Pull the
trigger and let the dogwood blossoms
shoot. |
It is reported that Hon. A. O. Bacon
will re-enter publie life, and that he will
begin by going to the Legislature from
Bibb. We hope this is true. Georgia
needs the services of able and true men
like Bacon. She needs better legislation
than she has had lately.
Tue News has seen a great many of
the farmers of Terrell county, and, be
tween Hill and Cleveland, they are al
most unanimously in favor of the ex-
President. It has been suggested that
the voters of the county express their
preference for President at the Congres
sional primary on the sth of April.
Ture Albany Herald asks: “What is
wrong with Dawson?”’ Nothing, neigh
bor. There can't be much wrong
with a town that has, within the past
three years, spent nearly $500,000 in im- |
provements, and is now getting ready to ‘
~ spend $36,000 for a court house. Come
over and see how we have grown—not in
ball room accomplishments, but in in
dustrial things.
- Hinr’s heelers have begun sneering at
- Cleveland. Senator Colquitt, asked his
~ opinion of Mr. Cleveland’s recent letter,
is said to have replied: “Too much dig
“mity. I believe in self-respect, but not
this super-human effort to be so much
'fiove other men.”” It will be remember
~ d that the Senator has already express
.~ od his contempt for “virtue, honesty and
?gg»nmy" in politics, as exemplified by
~ Lleveland, when they are not likely to be
_Zi"nnctified by success. Now he objects
to “‘too much dignity.”” I must be ad
- mitted, we think, that the senator is
nz great sacrifices to his ida\,
N T
EvErywnere the people seem to be
in a state of discontent, dissatisfaction
and of unrest., Looked at calmly and
=oberly the prevailing conditions do not
reasonably justify any such feelings.
The country is now in as good fix as it
was ‘‘before the war,’”” and that ought
to settle the matter. DBut everything
would support the assertim that tle
condition of the people is better now
than it has ever been. Less compiain
ing will cure the blues and biliousness
now possessing the people.
A sHORT time ago ex-President Cleve
iand spent twenty minutes in Atlanta
and was greeted by ten thousand Georgia
patriots. Senator Hill speut an hour in
Atlanta one day last week and the crowd
that turned out to greet him is estimated
by the newspapers to have been fifty.
The Telegraph says only a half dozen
were at the carshed in Macon to greet
the traveling Presidential candidate
when he passed through that city.
On the Hustings,
From the Calhoun Couriers.
~ Hon. O. B. Stevens will address the
County Alliance at Whitney on the first
Saturday in April, and the -public are
cordially invited. Hour of meeting, 1
o’clock p. m,

Dover Doings.
The people are all through planting
corn in this section,
Yes, Dover is a very lively place nowa
days. The merchants are having a nice
time. They keep sheir wives patching.
They wear out a pair of pants every
week. They meet each other half way and
see which can make the best picture in
the sand. I wonder why some of the
candidates don’t come down and keep
them company by talking politics to
them? lam sure that their wives also
would appreciate their company.
Dr. Woods has the finest oats in our
neighborhood, and he is proud of them,
too. He says by the next election he
will be able to take care of the candi
dates’ horses; so come down and see the
Doctor. Your horsesshall partake freely
of his oats,
| Miss Katie Thornton, one of the Dover
belles who has been visiting {riends in
Dawson, returned home this morning.
Messrs. B. S, Mathews and R. E.
Thornton attended preaching at Union
Sunday.
Messrs. W. W, Lee and J. R. Cranford
attend preaching at New Prospect last
Sunday, and heard a fine sermon.
Mr. Walter Hayes, B. §. Mathers’ clerk,
dev-tes his time to persuading negroes
to wink nickels in a funnel.
A man came to this plaea a few nights
ago and bought a peck of Irish
potatoes and had them put in two
paper sacks, and while returning home
he saw a ghost, He stopped and saic
“What in the name of God do you want?”
The object kept on advancing, and he
decided that more room was necessary.
You can guess the consequesces—while
running his sacks sprung a leak and
strewed potatoes for abouta mile. He
says that he has been to Dover his last
time at night,
Charley &. Lee, as usual, took his girls
and enjoyed the Sunday afterncon by a
wa'k to the creek. ]

Some cold, not cool, weather.
We are sorry to state that Miss Geor
gia Cochran’s school is a failure.
We wish to say that if the United
States is going to have war, why not get
at it. England isno “baby.” My friends,
take the matter into deliberation, and all
of it will be a “breakfast™ job.
Let so much politics alone, and get to
your work, Decide on your man and
stand undanted.
The cool weather is not going to do
corn any good. *“*Replant” will soon be
the ery of farmers,
Cottondale is on a regular boom. Oh,
nothing but bachelors!
[f Cottondale had two or three rail
roads, a compress, a factory, and about
2500 more inhabitants, it would be a good
sizo city, |

Ho! ye women, worn and weary, with
wan faces and so indescribably weak.
Those distressing, dragging-down pains,

Parrott is coming to the front rapidly |
as one of the most thrivinz towns on the
Columbus Southern railroad. Within a |
mile of the place are three saw mills, |
from which an immense quantity of lum- |

hear at Parrott the whistles of engines
and the buzz of machinery.
Parrott can lay el=im to an enterprise |
of oreat value, not only to that place, |
but to many other places. The Parrott
Variety Works are working on full time
