A REMARKABLE EXPLOSION LAST
WEDNESDAY,
Martha Roundtree Meets Death in a Won
derful Masiner--A Negro Woman'’s
Fatal Sneeze,
Probably the most remarkable occur
rence ever known happened in Dawson
last Wednesday.,
Martha Roundtree, the well-known
negro woman who kept a restaurant at
the south end of main street, now occu
pies a grave atthe cemetery, the result
of a sneeze.
The occurrence has excited wide
spread interest, and the physicians of
Dawson say that they have never heard
or read of a similar case,
Wedsnesday the woman, as well as us
ual, was at her restaurant attending to
her work.
She had just left the rear of her eat
ing saloon and walked to the front ‘'when
she was attacked with an excessive spell
of sneezing and coughing. She had
been afflicted with hernia, and the strain
was so great as to burst a hole in her
stomach large enough to insert a hand,
and through which the intestines pro
truded.
Surgical aid was called in and hor
stomach sewed up, which gave tempora
ry relief. She lingered until late Satur
day afternoon, when she died.
The victim of this very remarkable
occurrence was a large woman, weigh
ing 246 pounds, :
An imminent Presbyterian divine an
nounced to his congregation that he must
take a vacation on account of bronchitis,
the elders raised his salary and gave him
Dr. Bull's Cough Syrvp. "He was cured.

from our city will attend.
The Americus District meeting will
take place at Bronwood an the 26th of
April. A number of delegates are ex

ercises, and there were no servieds at
the former church., All the officers of
the society were re elected, ‘
Before the close of the services at the
Methodist church, Sunday morning, the
pastor, Rev. E. M. Whiting, stated that
he specially desired the attendance of all |
the younger members of the church on
next Sunday. He said that he had never
done or said anything sensational in the
pulpit, Hhut those who remain away next
Sunday might miss seeing or hearing
something. He closed by saying that he
had experienced great pleasure in
receiving about one hundred and
fifty members into the church here,
and next Sunday he may open the doors
again—not the front doors, but the back
doors—to let some of taem out.

THE BODY TAKEN UP
And the Bullet Extracted--Said to Fit Alex-
L -.. ander’s Pistol.® e
The most important case that is to be
tried before Judge Guerry in Clay Supe
rior Court this week is that against John
Whidden, charged with accessory to the
murder of Joel Holmes, ;
A Fort Gaines gentleman who was in
the city Saturday stated that Holme's
body had been taken up by order of the
court and the bullet extracted. The bui
let, so the gentleman said, fits the pistol
of Will Alexander, who was in the
difficulty as the murdered man’s
friend. If this is true it will greatly
lessen the crime of the defendants.
Whidden and Osborn were carried
from Dawson to Fort Gaines vesterday,
and will be put on trial tomorrow.
