Will Appoint ¥. W, Clark,
Today Ordinary Roberts will appoint
a clerk of the superior court to fill
the vacancy caused by the death of Judge
Clark. The Ordinary thinks that Judge
Clark’s family sliould have the benefit
of the office dyuring the term for which
he was elected, and he is satisfied that
the appointment will be approved by the
people.
An election to fill the vacancy will oc
cur on April 14th,
All for Barley Corn.
LaFontaine, in one of his fables, tells
of a barnyard fowl that scratched up a
gem, while scratching for corn. Not
knowing its value, he gave it to a stone
cutter for a barley corn. Thus do many
persons throw away the priceless pearl
of health. A “trifling” cough is neg
lected, then comes Consumption, then
death. Stay the cough, or look out for
a coffin. Dr. Pierce’'s Golden Medical
Discovery will cure catarrh in the head,
bronchial or throat affections, or lung
scrofula (commonly) known as the con
sumption of the lungs, If takenin time,
and given a fair trial, it will cure, or the
money paid for it will be refunded, It
is the only guaranteed cure.

Is He in Dawson?
From the Calboun Courier.
One N. L. Philips spent several days
here this week and last, soliciting sub
scribers to an agreement to trade with a
certain Chicago house, for the privalege
of which the subscriber pays $5. We
know of thousands of business houses
who would be willing to pay $5 to se
cure a good customer, but this is the
first instance in which we have noticed
that the customer pays a nice fee for the
privelege of spending his cash with a
given house or firm. Philips confined
his solicitations to negroes and those
whites whom he guessed were the least
likely to be posted. He secured very
few customers here, and has gone to
work in Dawson,

Will Begin April Fourth,
Tax Receiver Cannon publishes a
schedule of his appointments in TuEe
NEws today, the first being on April
4th.
It is important this year that all make
their returns during the month of Apiil,
as the Comptroller-General has ordered
ail tax receivers to get all returns in by
the first day of May and turn them over
to the board of equalizers.
Every one should be very careful, and
see that Sthe correct number of
his or her land is given In, A great
many have heretofore given in the wrong
numbers, thereby causing much confu
sion.
The magistrates of all districts are
required to get up the names of all the
tax-payers in their respective districts
and furnish them to the tax receixer,
They, too, should be very carful, as it is
important that the receiver be furnished
with all the names,
Reputation.
I'he reputation of a manis made up of
what people say of him. In lise manner
the reputation of a meadicine depends on
what they who have used it say.[[No
remedy in existence has so good a repu
tation as a bjood remedy as B. B. B,
{Botanic Blood Balm). It is asuccessful
physician’s prescription and quickly
¢ ires both mild and terrible cases of bad
blood.
Dr. L. H. Guild, Atlanta, Ga,, writes:
Wm. Sealock, living on my place, had an
ugly running ulcer on his arm which or
dinary remedies failed to control. Asa
last resort I placed him on a useof B. B.
B. and the ulcer began to heal at once,
and affected an entire cure. Itis a rem
edy well worthy of contidence.”
Dr. J. E. Hall, Druggist at Americus,
Ga., writes: “‘A planter of this place 1 ad
several of his best laborers afiected, with
Syphilis. He got them B. B. B. and pro
nounces them all well. A gang of A, P,
& L. railroad hands use B. B. P. with
great benefit to counteract the effects of
swamp muzlaria.”’

“HELL IS RIS HOME,
HORRIS FITZGERALD ORDERED TO
LEAVE THE CITY
By Unknown Parties--Three Notes That
Are Causing a Negro Much Uneasiness,
Horris Fitzgerald is a quiet and well
behaved negro who waits upon Mr, J.
H. McClelland at his bar.
But Horris is a very much agitated
man at present, and is not at all in an
easy state of mind.
He has rec:ntly received three notes
warning him not to remain in the city,
and intimating that if he did not go at
once he would be severely dealt with.
The second one of the notes was
thrown through his window one night
about supper time, and his wife says she
saw an unknown negro running fromn the
window wlen the note fell to the fioor
and attracted her attention,
The third note wes picked up near
the well in bis yard by his wife Wednes
day night, and was as follows:
“Horis Firz: I give you to under
stand you not white. You better put up
with you own color. Youkno what this
means and you better leave here. It will
be yourloss in a few days if you but
kno it. * * * Yours truly.”
The note was signed: *“‘Hell Will Be
You Home in a Few Days.”
Fitzgerald Las not left the city, but is
still wifh Mr. McClelland. He says he
doesn’t understand the matter, as he
knows of no reason why any one should
wish to get rid of him.
The notes were turned over to the of
ficers, and they are now quietly work
ing up the affair.
