WAKE UP, DAWSCN!
OUR MOST VALUABLE ENTERPRISE
MAY BE LOST
¥or the Lack of Public Spirit Among Us.
The Dawson Manufacturing Com
pany May Seek a New Home,
Are the people of Dawson going to
stand indifferently by and lose the most
valuable enterprise in the city?
As is well known, the Dawson Variety
Msnufacturing Company, which has
been of unteld hepefit to Dawson, cannot
be successfully operated ip the futuyre
nnless it is reorganized.
A movement W. § starved sometime since
t& Sorm a steck “company for the pur
pose of buying andloperatizg this valnable
property, but ‘the project is not meeting
with the encouragement that it deserves.
Tt is proposed to capitalize the company
at £40,000, which, it seems, ought tu be
a small sum to raise among the mer
chants and business men of the city who
are so vitally interested in every thing
thal” is calculated to enhance ilié pros. |
perity of Dawson. But only $17,000 of
the stock has yet been taken, and it now
appears to be doubttul it the jremaining
shares can be disposed of athome, -
The plaut itself is worth many thous
ands of dollars, and, while in operation,
made a good per cent un the money in
vested, and was of incalculable benefit
to the commercial interests of the city.
The company employed from 75 to 100
hands. and $40,000 is a Jow estimate of
the amount of foreigm meney that it
brought here annually and distributed
among the merchants and otherjbusiness
men of Dawson through the regular
channels of trade.
Especially are the merchants interest
ed Jin keeping this works here, and if
they Jfail to take stock in the
new company thatis proposed they will
be very much in their own light.’
A gentleman with good business judge
ment says the investment would pay 25
per cent.
Unless the company is reorganized
this valuable property will be moved to
another city or operated on a small
scale. Either wonld be a calamity to
Dawson, and the effect would be mate
rially felt.
1f the people of Dawson would retain
this enterptise, which has done much--
more Jthan anyone thing else—ingmak
ing Dawson the thriving city it is, now
is time to act.
S.rely taey are not going to let this
valuable enterprise leave us or dwindle
to nothing vhen it could be so easily
prevented by all helping a little.
A strong and a united pull for Dawson
would be} sufficient answer. |
$5O, TO 875, FOR $25.
This Way Sound Odd, But it is Nevertheles
True.
In this eminently progressive age, the
eaucation of no young man, no matter
what his intended avocation, can be re
garded as fully qual fying him for suc
cess unless he possesses a business train
ing. Where to get that the most quickly
and cheaply is the question. This paper
ventures nothing in saying that investi
gation will prove the Ga.-Ala. Business
College, of Macon Ga., to be the very in
stituton. |
Many young men lin six to twelve
weeks, at an expense of orly $2O, to $3O,
have recently finished book keeping,
telegraphy, or shorthand there, and, in
spite of the hard times, immediately
stepped into positions paying $5O to $75
per month. There is usually a disposi
tion to w:zit and begin with the New
Year: but if a business edu:ation is of
any value at all, the quicker it is gotten,
the more valuable it is; and by writing
to the principals, Messrs. Wyatt &
Martin, Macon Ga., at once, much better
terms can be made than by waiting until
Jater on. Placed six graduates last
week.

A Sultan of Turkey once said,
As he groaned at the pain in his head,
“Oh, my favorite wife,
I am sick of this life,
And I wish very much I were dead.”
But his wife, who was wise, answered
“Fie!
1f you will Pierce’s Pellets but try,
You’'ll be well in a week—
And then you will speak
Of these Pellets with praise just as
high.”
Dr. Pierce's Pellets cost only 25 cents
and they are guaranteed to cure all the
troubles which spring from constipation,
indigestion, and bilious attacks. If you
have any of these troubles, why don’t
you follow the example of the Sultan of
Turkey.
