—The mother of Mrs. D, H. Ozier, of

—The teachers will meet at Bronwood
on Saturday of next week. We will

—Mr. T. H. Nixon had 150 panels of
fence burned at his place, near this
city, a few days ago.
—The county alliance is advertised to
meet at the court house tomorrow morn
ing.
—Judge Roberts wants to know what
will remove tobacco juice from a fleor.
SOLD WHISKEY ON SUNDAY.
Judge Griggs Imposes a Heavy Sentence at
Fort Gaines.
. Last week in- Clay superior court, at
Ft. Gaines, L. D. Cohen, a bar-keeper,
pleaded guilty to an indictment for sell
ing whiskey on Sunday. A fine ot $l,OOO
was imposed upon him by Judge Griggs,
£6OO of which is to Dbe remitted upon
Cohen filing an affidavit never to sell
liquor on Sunday again.
The Operetta.
For some time past the jyousg ladies
and gentlemen of onr city-have been at
active work rehearsing an original
operetta under the direction of the com
poser, MissjAnita Lee Brunson, who is
conducting an elocution class in Dawson,
The cperetta is a most beautiful poetic
play and is sure to give pleasure to all
who attend. It is entitled ‘*‘Eulalia,”
and is replete with the most charming
music and fascinating tableaux. Spe
cial costumes haye been prepared for the
occasion. andjon Monday, April Bth, the
stage 1n Hart's opera house \will be a
scene of beauty and loyeliness. Miss
Brunson bears the reputation of
being a most, excellent teacher
of elocution and we doubt not that
under her supervision the young people
will acquit themselves handsomely. The

What Was Done at the Council Meeting
Monday Night.
The city council held its regular ses
sion Monday night,
| Action upon the recommendations of
the committee for a paid fire department
was jdeferred. Aldermen Rainey and
Dean jwere appointed to investigate the
cost of such a department. Mayor
Baldwin will call a meetiug of the coun
cil to hear the report. when definite
action will be taken.
A standing reward of $25 was offered
for proof to comvi‘t any one shooting
on the streets. ‘
The chief of police was instructed to
prefer charges against firms who,have
not taken a business liceuse this year.
The finance committee was instructed
to borrow $1,500. -

A Bulgarian Lectures.
Oa Monday night Mr. Dabry Petroff,
a native of Bulgaria, deliyered a most
entertaining lecture in the Presbyterian
church. Init he told of the habits, cus
toms and religious institutions of his
people. Mr. Petroff is a graduate of the
McCormick Theological Seminary of
Chicago, and by means of his lectures is
endeavoring to raise money to carry the
Protestant religion to Bulgaria. No ad
mission fee was charged by the lecturer,
his recompense being simply the free
will offering at the close of the service.

The Farmers Are Busy.
Terrell county promises to make the
biggest corn crop this vear since the
war. For the past ten days the farmers
have taken advantage of the fine weath
er to plant the corn crop, and the acre
age is the largest in years. The hogcrop,
tco, wiil receive their careful attention,
and whatever the price of cotton this
fall the farmers of Terrell county will
have %a super-é bundance of ‘‘hog and
hominy’ and other things to eat.
Death of a Good Woman,
Mrs. Laura F. Jowers died at her home
abeut three miles northwest of the city,
on Wednesday night last of pneu.nonia.
Her remains were laid to rest in the
Chickasawhatchee cemetery Thursday.
Mrs. Jowers was the daughter of the late
Daniel Blizzard, and was 41 years old at
the time of her death. She léaves one
brother, Mr. H. H. Blizzard, and three
children and many relatives and friends
t¢ mmouarn her loss.
Preaches Next Sunday.
Rev. T. M. Calloway, the newly elect- l
ed pastor of the Baptist church here, will
conduct his first services as pastor next
Sunday. The Monroe Hustler, pub
lished at Forsyth, stated that he would
leave that place on last Monday, April
Ist. We greet him with pleasuve, and
trust that his coming amongst us will be
for our mutual good.

Considerable excitement was created
on Main street Saturday afternoon by the
loud yells of a negro man. His name
was Will Denson, and that was the man
ner in wkich he emphasized his displeas
ure at being arrested by Mr. Bill Tedder.
Denson was wanted in Sumter county on
the charge of assault with intent to mur
der.

Parrott can boast of one of the most
proficient croquet clubs in the country,if
constant practice is any evidence., The
members are thinking of challenging
some high standing club in the near
future, when we may expect a lively

The sportsmen of this section hLuve
killed a great many doves in_the last lew
weeks. More than twelve hundved weie
’killed in a three days’ hunt, Messrs. Bob
Shippey and Ed Pinkston bagging the
largest number, and Mr. John Parcott
‘and Prof. Rice tlie smallest,
Mr. D. E. Dunbar, whose father was a
‘refugee to this county during the war,
has moved from middle Georgia to a
place near Parrott. He says the lands
of Terrell county are the best in the
state. 4

Miss Mollie Dismuke, of Graves Sta
tion, is visiting friends in the city.
Prof. Whitchard, on his rounds visit
ing the schools of the county, spent an
hour orso with Prof. Rice last Thursday.,
The quarterly meeting of the Richland
circuit will be held with the Parrott
church next Saturday and Sunday, Dr.
McGehee presiaing.
Mr. and Mrs. N. M. Weaver have been
visiting in Cuthbert.
