RAISING RICE.
Je 7
The Cereai to Be Growh on a More Exten
sive Scale.
A number of Terrell county farmers
raised rice very successfully last year,
and Tae NEws learns that the acreage
will be considerably increased this year.
Some shipped the bulk of their last
croo and realized an ayerage of $l.OO a
bushel for it.
Anticipating a greatly increased crop
this year a rice mill has been fitted up a
few miles north of Dawson. The mill is
already liberally patrounized by the rice
growers of this and adjoining counties.
It isa diversity of crops that will
make the farmers independent, and rais
ing rice for home use and the markets
promises to help some of them towards
prosperity.
A TEXAS FROG.
One ;Visited Our Sanctum on Last Mon
day.
Mr. W. F. Talbot, of Texas, sent his
sister, Mrs. McCarthy, a curious present
the other day. It is a frog, a Texas
frog, and if it had wings it would be
literally true to call it a rara avis. As it
is, it is truly a remarkable looking thing.
It has a tail and horns project from its
head, while prongs stick out all over the
pody. It was sentin to THE NEWS office
on a visit, and is ugly enough to take the
place of the *‘ printer’s devil.”

PROSPEROOS TERRELL.
A TALE |WHICH THE TAX BOOKS
UNFOLD. ;
Thev Show a Steady and Uratifying In
crease in the Returns of Representative
Farmers for the Past Ten Years.
In talking over the condition of the
farmers of Terrell county for the past
several years, THE NEws was much
gatifiea to discover that the tax returns
of twenty representative planters for the
past fifteen years showed a steady and
very gratifying increase in their posses
sions. In some instances the increase
reaches nearly 75 per cent.
Without a minate examination of the
tax books it 1s hardly possible to give
exact figures, but in the cases men tioned
above it is certain that surprising gains
have been made. This fact should en
courage our people, and spur them with
renewed energy, for what one man, or
twenty men, can do others can do.

A NEW DECEPTION.
which the people of the South
are resenting, is the efforts of
some to sell them imitations for
the real SBimmons Liver Regu

money by the imitation; and
they care little that they swindle
the people in®selling them an
inferior article. It’s the money
they are after, and the people can
look out for themselves, Now
this is just what the people are
doing, and merchants are having
a hard time trying to get people
to take the stuff they offer them
in place of Simmous Liver Reg
