COLUMBUS, Ga—H. T. Cotting

According to his petition he wrote

The case will be heard in a few
days, and much interest attaches to
it. Some entirely new points are

" To The Farmers of Terrell County and Vicinity:
We ask that you pardon us for suggestions with reference to the application of fertilizers; however, we
~onsider this question vital to the interest of all farmers who use fertilizers. Deep and thorough prep

of fertilizers we believe is imperative and should be unconditionally adhered to. |

We advise that one half of your fertilizers should be applied at the time of planting cotton. The last of

period of July and August, the cotton-making months of the season. By this method you furnish the

CRISP FLED FROM CUTHBER!
RIVAL CANDIDATES FOR POST
MASTER GAVE HIM A TIME,
The *“Leader” Says Congressman Has
No Clearer Insight Into Situation
Than WBefore His Visit,
The Cuthbert Leader gives the fol
lowing account of Congressman R
Crisp’s recent visit to that city:
“Congressman Crisp arrived in
Cuthbert Friday afteraoon from
Shellman, after a strenuous day with
the nine applicants for the postmas
tership and their many adherents.
'Tis said that they never let him get
lonely by day and sat up with him at
night.
“And it may be remarked by way
of parenthesis that the congressman
suffered no dull moments in Cuth
bert. He seemed immensely popular.
In fact, he said apparently he had
ten times as many friends as when he
was a candidate. Friends of the ap
plicants talked to him indoors, on the
streets and when he tried to eat to
renew his waning strength. Doubt
less he dreamed of candidates the |
little while he slept.
“Congressman Crisp’s visit here
was for the purpose of going over!
the ground and seeing if he could
ascertain the wishes of the people 'n
regard to a postmaster for Cuthbert.
They all seemed to be wishing, but
not the same way.
“1t is doubtful if Congressman
Crisp has any clearer insight to the
situation here than he had before.
He simply found that every applicant
hag supporters, some of whom are
full of zeal. Some think he made a
mistake in visiting Shellman and
Cuthbert.
“Mrs. Bussey’'s term as postmaster
expired on March 25th, but she will
remain in office until an appointment
is made for the next four years.”’

Uncle Sam as Large Hatcheries
Where Fish Are Produced by the
| Millions for This Purpose,
. WASHINGTON.—‘Many country
‘dwellers never enjoy all the good
‘things they might have for several
reasons,” says a writer in Farm and
Fireside. “They either do not know
that the representative in congress
from their district can do many
things for them or else they are too
indifferent to try for these gifts.
Sometimes they feel sure that when
one gets ‘something for nothing’ it
doesn’t amount to much, but in this
instance one doesn’'t get something
for nothing. Every tax payer in the
country helps provide the money for
the gifts the government lavishly be
stows through its public servants.
“Every one knows that seeds are
gziven away free every year, because
there is much contention about this
subject, but it is not generally
known that there are also valuable
plants and shrubs given for the ask
ing. llf any group of young folk
want to.beautify the school grounds,
the church yard or the pretty grove
where public meetings are held, or
even their own homes, they should
investigate and see what can be done
for them by their representatives.
Tulip bulbs, plants, shrubs and things
from the botanical gardens are all
within the reach of the congressman.
“Then there are public documents
relating to crops, plants and their in
gsect enemies, animals and their dis
eases, and other free literature that
is valuable and interesting. The
Year Book of Agriculture is one of
the most interesting volumes ever
printed, and it is unfortunate that
copies are never even opened in many
homes.
“If there is a little lake or pond
in the neighborhood where the young
folks like to fish it may be stocked
with fish free of charge, and a man
will be sent with the shipment, so
there is absolutely nothing to do but
carry them to the pond. In the large
hatcheries fish are produced by the
thousands each vear, and a simple re
quest will bring a supply to your
neighborhood. Of course they are
small when they come, but in a few
vears they grow and multiply in a
most gratifying manner. If there
are many applications it will be nec
essary to wait your turn.”
