Biggest of All Rattlers
Is Killed on Muckalee
Snake Was Over Six Feet Long and
Had Eighteen Rattlers.
What looked like the grand-daddy
of all the rattlesnakes was killed last
Thursday afternoon by S. B. Pinkston,
of Albany, at the old boat landing near
Lover's Lane on Muckalee creek. __
The snake was over six feet long
and had eighteen rattles and a button,
indicating an age of perhaps 20 years.
Mr. Pinkston and Robert Binion
were together when Robert saw swim
ming in the creek near them what he
took to be an aligator, but which Mr.
Pinkston recognized to be a huge rat
tler. The snake was swimming to
ward the bank, and they waited for it
to land. When it crawled up on the
bank Mr. Pinkston was ready for it
with a stick. He is confident that the
first blow killed the serpent, which
made no attempt to coil and strike
back when Mr. Pinkston attacked it.

Wins Laziest Man Title;
5 i
Hasn't Worked 1n 25 Years
Some Upstart Attempted to Wrest
Laurels From His Sweatless Brow.
Six married women, constituting a
jury in circuit court at Harrisburg, 111,,
found Hank E. Mott, manager of the
town band, “the laziest man in Saline
county” and the winner of a lawsuit
to prove it.
At the Saline county fair a lazy man
contest was held and Mott was beaten
by H. N. Finney, a lawyer, who con
tended he hadn’t taken his feet off his
desk in the daytime for 25 years. Mott
alleged he was defrauded and brought
suit.
Attorneys for both made impassion
ed pleas, extolling the laziness of their
clients, They accused each other’s
clients of doing work and brought
witnesses to court to prove it.
When a score of witnesses testified
that Hank Mott never did a day’s work
in his life the women on the jury
handed him the blue ribbon.
Finney was bitter after the verdict.
“Crookedness won for Hank Mott,” he
said. “All kinds of propaganda was
spread against me. The court was
prejudiced and my own witnesses done
me dirt. I'd appeal this case, but I am
too lazy.”

FRIDAY, AUGUST STH.
: AN ART-CRAFT SPECIAL
“LITTLE WOMEN," With All-Star Cast.
Isn’t this just like a woman? Isn’t it, really? To throw her arms
around a fellow, to kiss him, and then to—to be sorry of it. Such i
love. (Whisper: That’s what makes it interesting.) Incidents like thege
with which “Little Women” is replete, have made it such a popular
story that 2,600,000 copies of this book have been* sold.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 6TH.
REALART NIGHT.
ALICE BRADY in “THE NEW YORK IDEA.”
MARRIAGE IS LIKE THE MOVIES—You can go into the show
and if you don’t like it you can get up and go out. That is what a re
cent Reno divorcee has just been quoted as saying in a current popular
magazine article.
By the way, she was a war bride.
And war brides played leading roles in forty per cent of last year's
Reno divorces.
“THE NEW YORK IDEA,” starring Alice Brady, .shows just how
they do it, and it is one movie from which you won’t get up and go out
until the very end.
