Mr. C. 'W. Lee was confined to his
bed several days last week with fever,
but his friends are glad to see him out
again this week. -
Little Logan McDowell Thomas has
arrived at the home of Mr, and Mrs.
Logan Thomas, jr., for extended visit,
The singing school will close Friday
of this week. Everybody is invited to
come and bring a well filled basket.
Mr. Norman Woods and family and
Mr. Bridges, of Parrott, visited at the
home of Dr. T. A. Woods Sunday.
Rev. Merritt filled his regular ap
pointment here Sunday morning and
evening at the Methodist church.
Miss Annie May Gay, of Chicka
sawhatchee, is spending the week with
her cousin, Miss Wray Turner.
Mr. Sanford Lee attended the picnic
at Crittenden’s mill Friday, given by
his school mates from Dawson.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gay and children,
of Cuthbert, spent the week-end at the
home of Dr. Logan Thomas.
Dover and Bellflower played an in
teresting game of ball last Friday, with
the local boys the loser. |
Mr. Perkins, son and daughter, of
Pleasant Hill, have visited at the home
of Mr. Louis Lee. ‘
Mrs. C. W. Lee will leave this week
for an extended visit to ‘friends in Tal
lahassee, Fla.
Messrs. Rufus and Simpson Wig
gins, of near Shellman, were visitors
here Sunday.
The infant daughter of Mr. and
gdrs. R. J. Mims was buried here Sun
ay.
Messrs. Talmage Corbin and Jack
Stokes went to Morgan last week. |
SUNDAY SCHOOL INSTITUTE
AT BRONWOOD CHURCH
A county Sunday school institute
will be held at Bronwood Methodist
church Tuesday, August 3. A pro
gram of wide interest is being arrang
ed and the occasion will be most pleas
ant and profitable. The pastor, Rev.
W. H. Ketchum, and the superintend
ent, Mr. R. L. Cowart, on behalf of
the church extend to all pastors, of
ficers, teachers and otheis interested
of the various Methodist schools of
the county a cordial invitation. un
day school experts will have part on
the program. The all-day session‘wil!l
begin at 9:30 o’clock with intermission
for lunch.

Mr. C. C. Martin has leased the
store on Main street owned by Mrs.
C. F. Scott, which is being vacated by
Mrs. W. J. Hallady and is preparing
to open a first class grocery business
on September Ist. Mr. Martin is well
known to the trade, and has all the
qualifications for making a success of
the business.

DAWSON-ARLINGTON PLAY
. THREE GAMES THIS WEEK
Promise to Be Best! of the Season, and
Large Crowds Are Expected.
The local ball fans are promised a
great series of games this week, the
fast Arlington aggregation being
scheduled for three games. The two
teams will meet at Baldwin park here
this (Tuesday) afternoon, in _Arling
ton on Wednesday afternoon and here
again on Thursday afternoon. These
games promise to be the most inter
esting of the season and will, no doubt,
be very hotly contested. A large num
ber of fans have attended the games
between these teams in the past, and
many are expected to go with the club
to Arlington.
Are we going to win? You bet your
life. Just be on hand and see it well
done.
DAWSON RECEIVES IT
FIRST BALE OF COTTON
New Staple Arrived Monday and Sold
For Fourteen Cents a Pound.
The first bale of cotton received in
Dawson was brought in Monday morn
ing by Mr. C. B. Aycock, ginned by
the Dawson Cotton Qil Co., and stored
at the warehouse of Hill & Hill. The
bale weighed 463 pounds” and was
classed good middling. It was sold at
14 cents a pound. Cotton is opening
rapidly and the busy season at the dif
ferent warehouses will soon be on.
Two more bales of cotton were
brought in this morning and ginned at
the Dawson Cotton Oil Co.'s gin.
THE HALLADY STOCK
SOLD TO NEWTON WOMEN
Mrs. W. J. Hallady has disposed of
her stock of general merchandise to
Mrs. E. E. Livingstone, of Newton,
the deal having been made this morn
ing. Mrs. Livingstone and her sister,
Mrs. W. C. Hilliard, of Camilla, came
over yesterday to take an inventory of
the stock. The goods are being crated
this *morning for immediate shipment.
UNDERGOES OPERATION. |
Master Calvin \’Vva\-'er was taken to
Atlanta last night for an operation for
appendicitis, having been ill for only a
tew hours. He was accompanied by
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Wea
ver.
EPISCOPAL SERVICES.
There will be Episcopal services in
the primary room at the Methodist
church this (Tuesday) evening at 8
o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. B. Law
rence, of Americus.

One of the best revivals ever held at
the Methodist church here, closed Fri
day before the first Sunday. Rev. In
finger, who did the preaching, and his
faithful wife, who led the music, were
praised by all. We thank God they are
among our people this year, and while
'we hope for them a higher place next
Iyear we regret the thought we'll have
.to part with them. A nice little purse
was given to Mrs. Infinger as a token
of our appreciation of her faithful
work in conducting the singing.
Mrs. Kight, who was visiting her
daughter, Mrs. Pleas Davis, died here
last Friday night. Her body was sent
to her home in Cusseta for burial Sat
urday. We extend sympathy to the be
reaved family.
Chamblisston ball team’ defeated the
Weston team last Friday, the score be
ing 8 to 2 in favor of Chamblisston.
Misses Mattie ILiizzie and Agnes
Daniel, of Pelham, is visiting their
grandmother, Mrs. T. J. Daniel.
l Mr. Roy Gibson, of Jacksonville,
Fla., has been a visitor of his cousin,
Mr. Earl Westbrook.

IS ARRANGING PROGRAM
FOR ALL-DAY MEETING
Mrs. J. G. Parks, president of the
W. M. S, is arranging a program for
an all day meeting to be held at the
Methodist church Thursday, August
25th, for a conference of the different
missionary societies of this immediate
section. Mrs. N. A. Ray, district sec
retary, will preside, and it is hoped a
goodly number of women f{rom the
different societies may be brought to
gether.

Petition for Charter.
GEORGIA, Terrell County.—To
the Superior Court of said State and
County: The petition of K. S. Worthy
and H. H. Thornton, both of said state
and county, respectfully shows:
1. That they desire for themselves,
their associates and successors to be
incorporated and made a body politic
under the name and style of The Geor
gia Oil Company, for the period of
twenty years.
2. That the principal office of said
company shall be in the city of Daw
son, said state and county, but peti
tioners desire the right to establish
branch offices with this state or else
where, whenever the holders of a ma
jority of the gtock may so determine.
3. The object of said corporation is
pecuniary gain to itself and sharehold
ers.
4, The business to be carried on
lby said corporation is that of buying
and selling at wholesale and retail gas
oline, oils, grease and any and all oth
er commodities usually handled in con
nection with an oil business.
5. The capital stock of said corpo
ration shall be ten ($10,000.00) thous
and dollars, with the privilege of in
creasing the same to fifty ($50,000.00)
thousand dollars, or any additional
'lamount up to said sum, by a majority
vote of the stockholders, said stock to
be divided into shares of one hundred
($100.00) dollars each. More than 10
per cent of the amount of capital to
be employed by petitioners has already
been paid in. Petitioners desire the
right to have the subscription to said
capital stock paid in money or prop
erty to be taken at a fair valuation.
Petitioners further desire to issue com
mon and preferred stock in such pro
|portion as the stockholders may de
termine.
6. Petitioners desire the right to
sue and be sued, to plead and be im
pleaded, to have and use a common
seal, to make all necessary by-laws and
regulations, and to do all other things
that may be necessary for the success
ful carrying on of said business, in
cluding the right to buy, hold and sell
real estate and personal property suit
able to the purposes of the corpora
tion, to execute leases on property, to
give notes, bonds, mortgages, etc., as
evidence of indebtedness incurred in
the conduct of the affairs of the cor
poration,
7. Petitioners desire for said cor
poration the power and authority to
apply for and accept amendments to
its charter of either form or substance
by a vote of its stock outstanding at
the time. They also ask for said cor
poration the authority to wind up its
affairs, liquidate and discontinue its
business at any time it may determine
to do so by a vote of two-thirds of its
stock outstanding at the time.
8. Petitioners desire for said cor
poration when and as provided by the
laws of Georgia, and that it have all
such other rights, powers, privileges
and immunities as are incident to like
corporations or permissible under the
laws of Georgia.
Wherefore, petitioners pray to be in
corporated under the name and style
aforesaid with the powers, privileges
and immunities herein set forth, and
as are now, or may hereafter be, al
lowed a corporation of similar charac
ter under the laws of Georgia.
