Last Thiirsday, the 14th, was a
gala day at Graves Station. Not
withstandiiig the excessive hot
weather, every ome appeared bap-
Py and every one seemed to want
to add all they could to the pleas
ure of the others. The writer was
on the ground very early, and af
tet making a disposition of his turn
out the first thing that called his
attention, was an ox pulling a tise
horse wagon heavily laden with
melons. When he made his aps
Pearance into the opening around
the school house, where lie could
see the people going to and fro,
and the carriages and biiggies scate
tered around, the sight was more
than he could beat, atid after buck
ing tind backing foF a few seconds
he succeeded in breaking the shafts
aud awdy he went over the bushes
with a darkey hanging to the line.
The scene that followed was rather
exciting, but no damage done ex

About 10 o'clock, the Dawson

prove a great blessing to the coun~

with a splendid eulogy upon far

interest they had taken and the
part they had performed, and the
position occupied in this grand or

Mr. D Gillis, of the ¢ unty of

addressed the audience wpon the

- Judge Rogers was sleeping in a

nedt a window. The blinds were
tlosed aud the parties who made
the attempt must have used a syr

nose of the sleeping man. Too
much of it was used which came
very near strangling the Judge
and woke him up. The use of a
large fan, for a few moments, soon
banislied the effécts of the narcotic
and Judge Rogers was all right
again. Next morning foot prints
were seen on the out s'de where'
the would be robbers or murderers
got upon the back porch to do the
dastardly deed.
It is tiot known who the parties
are, but there had been two tramps
