The Rains.
The incessant rains since last
Wednesday have flooded the creeks
and rivers. Crops are injured es
pecially in the river bottoms and
travel on railroads is very dans
gerous. The Macon Telegraph re
ports the Ocmulgee? at that? place
very high and overflowing its
banks. All the bottom lands
around and below the Fair Grounds
are inundated and pesple liv
ing near the river have been com
pelled to move to higher grounds
for safety. At Augusta the river
is very high avd all the crops be
low and bordering on the river are
inundated and the damage will
amount to more than one million
dollars. Two third of the city is
under water from one to ten feet
deep and all the factories, plaining
mills and ete. bordering on the
canal haae been compelled to shut
down. The water 1s running
through stores and merchants and
clerks have moved the goods to
the higher shelving and to the sec
ond story. Over four hundred
dwelling houses have been inunda
ted and the inhabitants compelled
to flee to higher points.
From Columbus and Eufaula res
ports come in of high water and
great damage and suffering. The
fact is the whole country has been
flooded and the damages to prop.
erty will amount to several mil
lions of Dollars.
—WILL YOU SUFFER with
Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint?
Shiloh’s Vitalizer is guaranteed to
cure you, Croucn Bros
We have a letter from a gentle
man living in one of the lower
counties, who wishes to move here
for the purpose of educating his
children, and desires to rent a suis
table dwelling house. We do pot
know of a single vacant residence
in the city. The prosperity of our
city is impeded for the want of
houses, and our moneyed men can
make such a large per cent by leta
ting their money out otherwise
that they will not invest in real
estate. Our city is the best open
ing for two or three moneyed men
of any place in Georgia, and we
propose to advertise for them in
this manner:
WaANTED.
A first class business man with a
capitol of 850,000 and upward to
move to Dawson. We guarantee
that he can make some good in
vestments and reap a good per
cont on them. We have a few
moneyed men here, but they have
such a “fat thing’ that they would
not begin to notice such gsmall in
vestments that only paid them 12
or 15 per cent. Our town is healr
thy, the water good, the best
schools in Southwest Georgia, and
as clever a people as ever trod op
neat’s leather, Any information
on the subject we will give with
pleasure tofthose who may write
‘} to or apply at this office.

Some of the blowers about the
finest crops that we have had for
years, are beginiug to wear long
taces. The cotton crop is badly
damaged by the winds and rains
and we are unable to see what the
' results will be. The winds have
whipped a portion of the fruit off
the cotton stalks and left great
holes around the roots. These
ought to be filled up, but the cots
ton is lapped in the rows so that
it will be difficult work for the
plowsto do the work. If tle
rains continue for a few more days
the eatterpillar will make its ap
pearance. Then where is your

HorsLey & KILLEN,
On last Friday night between
eleven and twelve o'clock we had
the pleasure of seeing a sight that
we unever saw before. It was a
rain-bow. Perhaps there are
others who have seen it frequently
but it was our first time and we
meation it for that reason. The
rain-bow did not have all the bright
and dazzling colors of the spectrum
but was a white bow agaiost a
dark background and was very
pretty. The moon was about an
hour high in the west and the rain
cloud was in the northeast.

HorsLey & KILLEN,
One day last week & negro man
swore out a warrant for a woman
for drawing arazer on him and
had her locked up, The witnesses
that he was to have proven it by
knew nothing of the fuss and the
woman was dismissed. However
when she was freed, she swore out
a warrant against the man for false
imprisonment. This makes the
third tirue that this man has sworn
out warrants agamst people and
had them arrested for some imagi
nary coffence, He seems to have a
perfect mania for jailing people
and ought to be warmed up.
