Goods, purchased exclusively for ci»h, which they propose to sell in the same wav for moderate profits. Look out for particulars in the “Journal’ to be issued next week. In the mean time you can call upon them and commence mak ing your purchases, They can be found one door South of Baldwin’s Corner.and know bow (• treat you when you go round. rsr We regret to learn that our |»romi-ing young friend Judson Lang ley. son of Rev T. E. Langley, of thie plat e, departed this life very sud denly, in the 27th inst., at Fort Va’- |ey, where he had been spending some tune with petitions. As to where and when he will be iuterred we have n t at this time been informed. Young Mr Langley was indeed a promising youth, and his demise is certainly a sad bereavement to his parents and many friends. The youth Keaton, charged with the killing of young Martin, some two or three months since, at Chicka sawhatchie is under recognizance for bis appearance at the next Term of our Superior Court, to answer the charge. fge John May subscribed for tbe “Journal” about ten days ago, and lo ! and behold, we chronicle the fact this week that ho is married, and to a pretty girl at that. Come, young gentlemen, if you want to marry, hand in your names, and read our paper, and go and do likewise —if you can. o©~ Frank Leslie’s Ladie’s Maga zine for November, with beautiful en gravings aud fashions, together with tho usual quantity of reading matter and wit, has reached tbe escritoir of the Ed itor since his exeunt from our sanctum this week. Tho I,a is<l We I.ovc — The November number of The Land We Love comes to U3 filled with is usual variety of interesting matter. A beautiful engraving represents a scene in The Rattle of Eutaw, with a description from W Gilmore Simms Esq. The principal articles are Bat tle of Pleasant Hill, The Vanity and the Glory of Literature, The Vst!- boigfuiesj Tryst, Windsor Castle, Concerning Heroes, Airs. Cron-haw's Story. Organ Grinders, Casualties in ( heuthum’s Division in 1861, and a re view of Jean Ingelow by Mis Pres ton. E3T Ou Monday morning last, our Beni -r proprietor took his departure for the fen board, and ; n the afternoon, our littl" Editnr, struck out in thedircc'ioj of the Chattahoochee, thus leaving us in charge of the “Journal” as wc thought for at 1 art the present week, but on en tering our sanctum, which we done im mediately, wearing the consequential ap pearance characteristic of the vain, when Suddenly elevated from quiet life to the bright etnolumoD’B of office, we found t« our surprise that our precaueious lit— c ■ devil,” Jimuiie Brown, had located himself in the olitorial chair, and with quill in hand was rapidly ventilating the Greciau bend, which he says made its appearance in Dawson several days ago, and should Lave been noticed in our last issue. By a compromise, how ever, we come in for a small space in the present issue, to give, as we were cnj dued to do by tb. Editor before he left, the current news of the city, whioh we find quite meagre this w.ek ; not a quarrel, fight, or a single runaway scrape up to the time of going to proas, which of course detracts from the in tsrest of our paper ; but if people won’t quarrel nor fight, and horses won’t run. »way with wagons, and tho Council don’t fliuiUrb anybody, so as to give us some thing to write about, we can’t help it, >od must content ourselves with report ing our citizens as basking iu the sun light of quietude, peace, and—wo were going to say plenty, but remember that wc heard one of our citezns remark yes terday that so far as eating was concern ®d, that it was a timo just now between beef and bacon, the tiuth of which, so far as we are concerned, is fully verified U'Me times a day. Pmd. rs and pota toea are, however, fashionable, and we hope by them to be enabled to survive the crisis. tar I would respectfully call the *tteution of the Proprietors to the fact, •hat in case they do not mako some ar rangrment for the safe keeping of their Editor, the same will como up some “orniug missiog. lam continually ex ercising care, le t he should meet with *>me accident, and would be glad you Would relieve me of such responsibili ties. He Las already beeu knocked over by the press lever, and rcfwmedly saved from falling into tho ink keg.— »eo to it, that your Editor be cooped out of tbo way. FoaEMA.V Viabelkal .Harder, Wo have been informed of a most horrible murder, which was committed on Saturday last, 17lh inst., in the ad joining county of Macon, in the neigh borhood of Salem Church, übout five mile# from the village of Notnsulga Ettf the act to be tq preeiuted in all its hotror, it will be necessary to write a litt e history Some time lust year, a youth of about eighteen years of ng i named William Duke, won the heart ol a girl about six'een, whose family name is Low Her family objected to their marriage, but, as is too often the case unier such circumstances, they’ ran aw ay, and woie married. Their happiness was short-lived.— Harsh treatment from ihe y ung hus band, and from bis family, tow aid the young wife who had disregarded and torsaken her family to join her de-tiny with his, so n followed the honey niot n. But the young couple went to keeping house, and, acting their part in ttie cub oun of society, invited the circuit preacher, at his previous visit t > tbe church nor by, to dine with them on Saturday last—the fatal day Neither husband or wile attended church that day, but the minister, in fulfilment of bis promise, went lo the house notwithstanding. On entering the door, instead of a pleasant greet ing and a rendo ing of excuses for ab sence from church, what a sight met his eye ! The young wife suspended by the neck with a cord from one of the joists of the house, her body cold and stiff! Chairs and tables were overturned, the bed rumpied, and ev ery evidence that there had been a scutlle in the room. Not a sign of life in the house, except the breathing of the little sleej ing babe, innocent of the irreparable loss to itself, and of the terrib'e tragedy that bad but just been enacted. The preacher immediately cut the cord, and, calling in the passers by, the body was examined The clothing was badly torn, and unmistakable marks of fingers and finger nails were found upon the neck and shoulders. The unfortunate woman had either been strangled by the hand of some devilish villain, or else forcibly hang ed. Who could have committed the aw ful deed ? and why was it clone ? The matter was being investigated at our last advices—Monday last—but at that time no fact had been elicited, except that the father of the husband had been seen leaving the house a short while before preaching begun The husband had been absent fir two days, but returned on Saturday night, The wife’s lamily refuse to al low him to see her dead body. We shall endeavor to publish all the facts in tho case, as they are devel oped. The aflair has naturally created intense excitement in the community, composed, as it i->, almost entire y e>t quiet, peaceai le fanners, unaccus t"med to acts of murder aud outrage. ■ —Mont Mail , 21st.
