Bailey’* Vaii«4i«M»- Uailt-y Inis certainly come to town, nnd "ill perform here to night, lie brings with him the greatest budget of fun ever found in a company of equal size Associated as ho is, with West’s Celebrated Brass Band, formerly of me 4th and Bth Georgia Regiments, the Company has the reputuiion of being the best Show now traveling. We know the Band to be composed of the best associated Musicians in the South. Come <ne ! Como all, and do your laughing. It is something to please you. The Journal l east— On last Saturday evening, together with the Proprietor?, 'ie casually wandered to lire nicely arranged Saloon of Mr. Garrard, where after being seated beneath the elegantly pan oplied table resort, we did ample justice to ourselves, in the agreeable dispatch of a rich and flowing dish ol Bivalvularx which we re member to have been the very best ever eat en by us, and most assuredly the greatest quantity that was ever placed before u* at any one time. We struggled hard, and mu tually encouraged each other to complete the work of demolition, but utterly failed in the attempt, aud had to give over with nearly half remaining on our plates. We inquired as to the usual dish for cUxt-Tuers, aud were re flied to, by being referred to our own rich viands. Long may he wave, which wc feel assured will be the consrqin-oce as long as he, with the sprightly Mr. Walker, will so earne.-tly strive to please all who patronize them Thor*. T. Christian, Pastor ■of the Methodist Church at this place, who has labored bo efficiently with us .for the last three or four years, wi I r.c •cupy the Pulpit again on Sabbath next, which will conclude his services in our town-. Let us attest our appre ciation of the enusi of Christ, and of this faithful Minister of God ty a full attendance on next Sabbath. Passing the Ouu r t-!iouse yard the other dry, we discovered a crowd of men and 1 oys grouped together as though something unusual was being the matter of wonder. Anxiously wc ■drew near to learn the item of interest, and pau-ed, expecting to gaze upon some new specimen of the animal crcaiion, when we beheld in the n.idst of the crowd, a little hole, of six iuch-s in di ameter T,e ‘Jcvd’ says they were dig girg a wi 11. Sensational We were peeping through ihe window nnd n isw her, I’ll declare ; She was 1 beauty and •all that, besides she was so fair. It’s cor aiu •.that we’ll not forget, the charming beau’v sren ; We would not bet on guesting righ', but say she was eighteen. She wts pretty, yes, but. that’s not half, somehow theie was a spell, that fixed tny giz'upoti her face, I hope hbe’s not a Belle; Oh ! cruel sale, ah, harrowing stroke, it behooves me now to tel 1 . The whip applied, tlie horse did trot, the fair one would not dwell. Yes, they are coming to town ’ •For what purpos-, do you suppose.’ ‘Why, did you not hear that W. T. Slaler, : t Ihe low price of $3 per annum, should receive the supp rt of alt w ho desire to foster Southern lit erature. The first number comes to us freight ed with the gicat story of Airs. \Yin stanley, entitled the ‘ Peasant Girl,” also, ‘ The Cruise of the Six II undred,’’ by Mjij. VV. W. Go’dsbutrough, which gives un account of the horrible suffer ings nnd privations inflicted upon six hundred Confederate officers, who were sent, in 1864 from Fort Dele ware to Gen. Foster’s department in the South for retaliatory purposes, is almost beyond belief; but there are still many living witnesses to the fact-. Everything we have ever read of bru tulity to prisoners during the war pales before this, which causes us an invol untary shudder. Tiuly there is a VVirz w ho has been overlooked. Helerson’s Magazine— Fur December, is already os our table. It is a splendid number, with two steel engrav ing?, a mammoth fashion plate, a colored pateru in Beilin woik, and ucailv filly wood c”ts. The principle steel engraving, 1 The Orphan's Christmas Eve,” will touch every heart. We do not wonder at the immense circulation ol “Peterson,”—said to be the largest in the world—for it really gives more for the money than any other. Everybody ought to subscribe for it. Its stories are the best published anywhere. Tub Simmon’s Regulator ha-, been u.-ed so many jears w.th success that no one ufibeted with dyspepsia, colic, constipation, or any bilious affec tion, should be without the remedy ie their house. The number of certificates from the un at influential citizens fully establishes its virtues. One says: I think it the greatest mcdiciuo in the world. Auotber syas ; I consider it in valuable in s’ck h<aduche, a? it b;.s not failed o giv ie irfiu any instance. An thir says ; l consider it indispensi bie in my family, and will never be tviiLout i . Notice—We wiil take Butter, Eggs, nr Chickens, from any of our subscribers who owe us, at market j prices, or it you want to subscribe to the paper and have not got the money, we w ill uike them, but bring thorn on if you doiit owe or subset ibe and wu wi 1 buy th• in. Nourish thy s >ul with good works Give i pence in solitude Get it strength in prayer. Make it wi*e with reading Enlighten it by Meditation. Keep it in the presence of God, and teach ii to inflate those guardian ang-li which, though :hey attend tabu man affairs, and lot be lowest if rriakind, ‘always b hold the face of our Father which is in II aven.’ —We should get benefits from a book as a bee gets honey from a 11 ti er—dive deep I ut attempt to take away but little at a time.
