Suicide—
Mrs. Potter, aged about, seventy years
widow of Washington Potter, lato of
Calhoun county, committed suicide on
the 13th inst., at the houso of her son
in-law, Mr. Thomas Wilkorson.
The circumstances rttending this rash
act, so far as we can learn, are as fol
lows: Mr. and Mrs. Wilkorson were
from home, leaving Mrs. Potter to take
care of tho house, during their absence,
Mrs. Potter placed a bandage over her
eyes, a rope around her neck, climbed
up the side of the house, tied the rope
to odo of tho logs or poles of the house
and suspended hersolf, thereby causing
death. Wo know of no causa but a
general one in such eases—aberration
ajf mind.

“Bobbing Around”—
After being a very moral young man
ou Sabbath morning, going to preach
ing, &c., we concluded it would not
be amiss to take a stroll around about
tho suburbs of our little city, in order
to make a report to our readers how
everything was working in that direc
tion, and glad to say that it is favora
ble, for we have never seen better
prospects for good vegetable gardens
in this country—it is conclusive evi
dence of the industry of our citizens—
some are, we learn, already feasting
on iiish potatoes, peas, &c, from their
gardens.
Besides all this, there are the flower
gardens—oh, they look delightful—
everything in “apple pie order”—nice
and clean—we like to said clean as
our office. Well, what is it that the la
dies can’t make look delightful—every
thing but an old bachelor, und they
ought not to try to improve his looks,
so says Mrs. Partington. So much for
“bobbing around,” and seeing all the
“party” things, and all the “purty”
ladies too.

B ing fully identified wrb the people
of Dawson and Terrell county, after a
residence of fifteen months, I fori the
great importance of having some pro
tection against fire. The business part
of our town is built so compact and of
si inflammable a material, tbar, sb< uld
a fire break out in this part, the whole
f it mint ineviiably full a prey to the
flam ’s. To prepare agaiost such a cat
astrophe, is the duty of cvi ry ciriz n.
A llook and Ladder Company in Daw
son, is absolutely necessary. I pro
pose to make a move in this direction,
and respectfully ask the co-operation of
every cirizro. At an ear’y day I will
give a concert at the City Hall, the pro
ceeds of which, I propose to apply to the
firing out. of such a company as tho
eit’zens may form for mutual protection.
By the hearty co-operation c-f our City
Fathers in this enterprise, the most of
the funds necessary to fit out a Ileok
and Ladder Companfjkiay be raised.

Miasmatic Fevers, viz:
Chills ana Fever, or Fever and Ague,
Dumb Chills, Congestive Chills, or
Pernicious F'evi r, Bilious re

THIS is a remedy which has boon used by tho
__ author in tho above named diseases for the
last ton years, with the happiest results. Even
in those obstinate cases, in which Quinine, Jrso*
nio or Prussia!** of Iron had been used in vain,
this remedy effected a cure in two or three days,
without a relapse ever occurring;.
The advantages that the Anti Periodic posses*
es above all remedies of this class, consist in tho
fact: First —That it invariably breaks up the fe
ver, together with the liability to return on the
7th, 14th, and 21st days. Second—That it does
not occasion any of the head symptoms, like those
produced by Quinine. And Third -That it can
be administered to children of the most tender
