i very favorable reports from
.1 uo county, as to crops and health
A irieud, who has seen a good portion
of the county, reports the crop of corn
laid by ia first rate order, and the cotton
crop ia healthy condition and clear of
grass.
We congratulate our Calhoun plant
ers on their fine prospects, and hope
that their expectations of a good crop,
may be realized. Will be glad to have
some of our friends write us weekly, as
to health and condition of the crop, and
on ary other subject, that would inter
est the ftiends of the co-Aty abroad.

Trade-
While the Dry Goods Merchants
complain of dull trade, still there is
much being done in the provision line.
We heartily wish that the condition
rs our country was such, as ro causo a
dull trade, or no trade at all, in tLis line.
-■Still it is not so, and the planter can
.fiud plenty of Corn and Bacon in our
market, tor cash, or prompt-paying cus
tomers can buy on time.
Mitru in Calhoun—
We learn that quite a wind, accom
panied with rain, pas ed over the cen
tral portion of the county on las'
Tuesday.
No damage heard of, except the fall
ing of timber.

Tho now phase of tho colored ques
tion is creating considerable local ex
citemout in Washington, and in the
absence of moro important events is
generally discussed. The Mayor has
signed the bill passed by the oouocils
allowing colored peoplo to occupy such
seats as they are willing to pay for in
all places of amusement. Tho result is
likely to bo that the latter will all be
closed. Tho theaires are closed for tho

test the law in the courts.
Thu Growing! Cotton Crop.— We
continue to hear of excessive rains, at
tended with ooid and unseasonable
weather, ia Alabama, iu portions of
Mississippi and all along the Atlantic
coast, and consequently receive discour
aging accounts as to the oondition of
the ootton plant in those sections In
Texas, Lousianna, and in that vicinity,
the weather has been favorable, but
the overflow of therivers in those States
have for some time threatened consider
able damage, as yet, however without
serious results. But, taken as a wholo,
tho crop is now without doubt very
backward and unpromising. Replant

as circumstances will permit.—Savan
