Would it not be well for our City
father! to have all these noxious weeds
in our streets out down, thereby decrease
next year’s orop.
McKinney * Croneli-
Can be found at their old stand, with
an entirely new stock of Goods. Ladies
wonld do well to call early, and select
some of those beautiful Dress Goods.
Hew Wear’s Day-
Our friends of the Israclitish persua
sion closed their door’s on Mouday.—
We learn that it was to celebrate the
first day of the year. Some of the
boys were not full converts, and bad
the side doors opened They were only
half Jew*.
-Good Shoes—
Home Made by Doe Simmons, of
Weston, can be bought of J. E. Lny
less. Call and examine them. You
will not be ashamed of them ; you will
feel that ere long we need not go North
lor Boots and Shoos. Mr. Simmons
mill pay highest cash prices for Hides,
Tallow and Tan Bark.
Chapter of St. Elbow—
iKrra ta
in fourth far«gr*ph, for “must keep
lace with the stream,” read “must keep
pace, <fco.” in seventh paragraph of
second column, for “see,’’ read “she”
and for “uiil,” "still.” In Stella s let
ter, for "not so sacred to he mentioned”
read “not too sacred &c.” In last par
agraph, for “earth, time, morality” read
“earth,time, mortality.”
Itaast, Drought and <*uano—
Or semethirg else, has caused the cot
inn to open earlier than usual, and the
high price being paid prompts the plan
ter to rush it to market. The heavy
receipts may cause a decline in price,
bat if we take a right view of the caus
es, it will go to prove a short crop.
Heavy receipts, should not affect the
price; at least, the price sbnU’d not de
cliao. To our planting friends, we say
you risk much if you hold for better price
Badness Season Opened—
We are pleased to see much activity
among our warehousemen and grocery
Oitercfcta's* Late Fall styles of dry
goods are also in market.
Our cotton buyers, not expecting the
market to open so early, bad not made
tbeir monied arrangements to meet tbc
demand made on them. A few days
will remedy this, and all cotton brought
to our market will fi id ready purchasers
a* good prices.
Home Enterprise—
Mr. T J Hsrt has a lot of Buggies,
Single and Double, of bis own make,
and the beauty about them is be war--
rauts them to be of good matt-rial and
good workmanship, iu every particular.
If they prove otherwise, all hj asks is
to bring them to him, and repairs will
cost nothing. His prices compare favor
ably with those who deal in Noitbern
work. Give him a call.
Sale and Feed tilables-
Measrs. Farnum k Sharpe are at their
old stand, and intend keeping a Feed
and Sale Stable. Mr. Sharp is now in
Tennessee, getting up a stock of Horses
and Mules, which will bo offered at rea
sonable prices, on arrival.
By the 20 h iust. they will be pre
pared to show some of the best stock ev
er brought to this market, and intend to
keep, through the season, first-class
borsto *nd mules for sale.

FEMALE SCHOOL IN DAW.
sen—to commence First Mon
day in January, I*7o.
r l' , nERE is no question as to the merit and
-l usefulness of a thorough-bred education
among females, as 9uch, in every instance,
fixes aDd determines with a greater or less
force, the decision of character that must in
evitably follow in yielding to results.
For reasons, no less potent, have the peo
ple, all over our country, directed Cheir ener
gies to the bnilcing up tfnd establishing of
Colleges in vatiods parts ol the country. It
is vefy essential that the female mind should
be cultured and the best means devised
sbonld be the plan adopted in cirectiug this
work, the majority will readily conceed to
the fact that celleges, in the main, afford the
most perfect system, since, in such, the prog
ress is gradual, and for the most part, unva
rying. This is all very well and promises
much that 13 worthy of credit, yet, there is
one serious objection t tat must ever coulrout
the hope ol bestowing upon them entire pat
ronage, and that is the iuabilitv Os the major
ity of our people to bear the expense. Then,
In view of the improbable course of sending
our daughters to a college where they might
acquit, themselves at a considerable expense
with a desirable education, the next best
method should employ the attention of our
people as the testimonials following (in refer
ence to ,I/rs. Annie P. Stokes,) do suggest.
She comes highly recommended as a lady of
thorough training. She solicits patronage
for the incoming year from the citizeus of
Os Dawson, and with the ability that years cf
studious application engenders, flatters her
self with the hope of giving entire satisfaction
to those who will lavor her with their patrons
age.
TESTIMONIALS.
. Washington, Ga. /une 8, 1866.
Mrs. Annie P. Stokes is a graduate of the
Washington Female Seminary, and is one of
the few voting ladies who completed the
course prescribed at that Institution. After a
thorough and most rigid examination of the
o itire course—which she sustained with g»eat
credit—she received a diploma. I take great
pleasure in bearing testimony to her high
qualifications for a teacher.

ifet. Annie P. Stokes is at liberty to use
my name as desired, as I distinctly recollect
her good standing as a scholar.
Samuel Barnett.
Washington, Ga. June 8, 1866.
Mrs. Annie P. Stokes is at liberty to use
my name. I am onlv sorry that the refer
ence will so little profit a lady of so much
merit; and who, as a school girl, was re
markable for scholarship and orderly deport
ment. W. M. Reese, Judge N. Circuit.

CTO ns hundred years ago now [jaeM the
braied P i.antation Bittkks were as ele
knowu in the West Indies as they are now
known in the United iS:ates. It is true they
were not known by that name, but tbeir com
ponents and manner of manufacturing Were
the same—save that there has been add'd
Calisaya or Peruvian Bark , celebrated the
world over for its wonderful tonic properties.
Even to this day these Bitters are popular as
ever, and their sale and use on these Islands
is constantly increasing, and there can hard
ly a familv be found, rich or poor, who is
without them. We do not wish to impute
any wrong to the Ainetiean proprietors of
these Bitters, but that they are the origina
tors, we most stoutly deny, and they must
take such umbrage at it as they please. At
the same time we take this occasion to say
that a more valuable tonic Bitters cannot be
found in all the wot Id. We consider them
just the thing for weak and delicate females,
and all thosj tequiring a mild aud gentle
stimulant.
