The moeting at the Methodist church is still in progress and although con tinued rains have prevented an undis turbod sorios, still tho interest therein increases, and tho prospect for a fruit ful revival is flattering. IHwsox as a “Distributing Point.” —AVo noticed the other day a quanti ty of Bacon and Flour being shipped by one of our morcbautile firms, por order, to Cuthbert. Our wholesale trade is somewhat dull at present, but will brighten up as thesoason advances. Much complaint is being made, and justly, wo think, on account of the re moval of the bridge across tho Chick asawhatchio within tho incorporate limits of town. A ford is not suffici ent, and the removal of tho bridge will deter tho trade from coming to this place. We hope tho Council will reconsider their action. Wo call tlie attention of farmers to the advertisement of tho Wilson Cot ton Press, a d.agram of which can bo seen at this office. S. It. Westo.v, Secretary. Andrew Female College.— ln tlio advertisement of this popular institu tion on last week a few papers were Sont out with an error as to tlio price per annum in the Collegiate De partment. Rev. J. B. Turning The Scales.— An aged froedman in our community having saved enough of his earnings to send his boy to school until ho could spell words of three syllables, concluded that he, the father, was not too old to go to school, and consequently, made a teacher of his boy, the father being tho only pupil. Having advanced from A to AB, he was then given a lesson in cat, rat, dog, &c. Tho father unaware of the lino of discipliuo his son intended to pursue was rather careless about perfect lessons, and to his surprise, on reciting a lesson after ■upper, being asked to spell dog, ho responded d-o-r-g ! the son feathered in on him with a well seasoned hicko ry. On being interrogated as to that manner of proceeding the hoy replied, “that’s the way our teacher does us and if you go to school to me you may expect to get flogged if you don’t have perfect lessons. ’ This school was closed without an examination or pub lic demonstration of any kind, and we liavo not heard whether or not there will be a fall session. Nlr. AVriglit Blaekshear, formerly of AA' ebster, next of Terrell, and more re- , ceutly of Dougherty county, met a man on the public highway, in Sump- j ter county not long since who purpor- j ted to be from Kansas Territory, so the story goes, who gave the said Blaekshear, although he bad never seen him before, a power of Attorney to sell a lot of land lying in this coun ty and belonging to a Mr. Brown of Talbot county. Messrs MeNiel and Wj •nn, two honest hard-working men, purchased this land from tho said Mr. Blaekshear, and now mourn because the rightful owner has set in his claim, and their $400.00 paid for the land is not. Justice On* has bound over Mr B. in tlie sum of S2OOO for bis appearance at the next term of tho Court, at which time, if ho does not escape from the Cuthbert jail or is not pardoned by Air. Bullock, lio will answer the complaint of Messrs Mc- Niel and Wynn who charges him with forging the deeds of this land. Cot,. Fielder’s Address. —On Tues day the Agricultural Societies of Tor roll County, and citizens generally will be favored with an address from Col. Fielder which will be beneficial and interesting to those who give him a hearing. We have heard his notions on Agriculture, and though he bo not of them, he has given tho subject much study, aud if wo bo allowed an opinion wo unhesitatingly ask our readers to come and boar Col. 1 iold er’s views on farming; it will do you good. Let all seo to it that we have a good turn out. To end all disputes about tho mat ter the Telegraph and Messenger says: We again repeat, by tho authority of Mayor Huff, that all premiums awar ded at tho coming State Fair in Octo ber, will be paid in money, promptly and on tho Fair Grounds. The May or of Macon controls this matter, and will make good what wo have stated. A CAKI*.
