DAjYSON JOURNAL. '' hoc AL column. Pierce -will preach at the Methodist church on to-morrow (Fri day) night. “Shoo-fly” hns become a revival tuno among the colored professors of this section. Moat is falling, as the drayman said •vrho let a hogshead of bacon fall from his dray. Tho best applos you ever saw, and tho most of them, at Solomon’s. Rev. J. K- Armstrong will preach a Temperance Sermon at tho Methodist church, at 4 oclock on Sabbath even ing next. Mrs. "Williams died at the rosideuce of her daughter, Mrs. Mathews, on Sunday last, of general debility and old age. Go to Solomon’s and got some of that good butter, choese, cranborrios currants, etc. Miss Mollio Williamson has received her Fall stock of Millinery, and is pre pared to furnish her customers and friends on short notice. See adver tisement. $75,000. "We have made arrangements to fur nish planters with supplies next sum mer, on time, to the amount of Seven ty-five Thousand Dollars, septßO- Lice & Fulton. The 4th Quarterly Meeting of the Methodist church will begin on Satur day next. There will be service on Friday morning and at night, preced ing. 0. G. SrAKics, of Macon, Ga., has made a donation of ten thousand brick to tho District High School. We also learn that Messrs. Seymour, Tinsley & Cos. have given a large amount. Capt. Jacobi, in Judge Simmon’s new brick store, is ottering a select stock of goods to the trade. See his advertisement, and bo convinced that he speaks the truth. We notice a number of narrow guago car wheels and frames at the Dawson Car Works. This establish ment is doing a very extensivo business at present It has been doeided to erect the Col lege buildings fronting the street that runs immediately in front of the Owen Nelson Institute. Wo hope to bo able to tell tho name of tho street in a few days. Most people say it has rained a great deal this year, and we believe it has. The mail-carrier from Dawson to Mor gan reports that in making forty seven trips, (one a week,) he has “had his jacket wet” forty times, Roticc. Tho personal property of 9am’l Den ton, dec’d, will be sold at'his late res idence, on Wednesday, the 10th inst. D. F. Lawuokn, Adm’r. Oct. 10, 1871. Not A Ckoss Road Cake Shop.— Brown Station has not had a tiro, but Johnson & Hill have built them anew store, and have got it chock full of new goods of every description. See their advertisement. "Wo live to lca.ru. A colored divine iu Ids discourse on Sabbath last, said to his congregation that when Jesus Christ was about making his appear ance on the earth, there were three opposing powers —one of them con sisting of the devil and fifteen French men. Fair Ghoinds. —These grounds are now tbo center of attraction. If thero are any who doubt the grand success of this worthy enterprise, let them vis it the grounds and see what has been and is being done. We learn that the counties South of Terrell will be large ly represented in the way of entries. The veritable Mark Moses was in the act of escaping from tho Cuthbert jail again the ether day. Seeing the Sheriff, ho said to him that ho could not possibly stay thero unless ho was tied hand and foot The request was granted, and now his back acts as the pedal extremity instead of his foot. To Ouk Subscribers. —We are now makingout tho accounts of those of our subscribers who are in arrears, and will, in about two woeks, inform each one of his or her indebtedness. Asto r the accounts are sent the paper w ill be continued for one month to thoso indebted, when, if they do not remit their papers will bo discontinued. Accidental.—A pistol in the hands of Mr. J. L. Willis, of our town, was accidentally discharged, the load tak ing effoct in the arm of a negro gii 1 who was acting in the capacity of nurse, and was carrying an infant in her arms at the time. Fortunately, the child escaped. Tho wound is not considered dangerous. General Breckenridge, ot Kentucky, it expected to be present on the occa sion of the forth coming Confederate reunion at*Lcxington, Mo. Loyloss & Griffin are now receiving an immense stock of goods which they °! r ®. r . t 0 the trade cheap for cash. One ot this enterprising firm is now in the Eastern markets sending forward the goods that they want. See their ad vertisement, and depend on it they moan all they say. Enterprise.— The now brick build ings of Mossrs. Janes, Criui and Brown are now rapidly going up. Mr. Drink water, tho contractor, put tho first brick and mortar together on Monday morning last. Mr. Cobb, contractor, has begun work on tho buildings of Messrs. Boy less & Griffin, Jones &. Harper and T. J. Hart, and says the brick work will bo completed in a mouth’s time. This will boa very handsome block when finished. We direct attention to the adver tisement of Mossrs. Farnum, Sharpe & Cos. We have examined their new stock iu their new store, and our judg ment is that it cannot he surpassed in Southwest Georgia. All thoir heavy goods aro kept in the basoment, and it would astonish any oue to look through their immense stock, and wo believe small buyers could mako as good bills with them as where more and larger pretensions aro made. It was our pleasure to listen to a most excellent sermon on Sabbath last, by Rev. J. K. Armstrong. His theme was “decision of character,’’and after illustrating what this character istic had accomplished in the spiritual, military and political worlds in past ages, made the application to our day and time. If there is an element iu our natures that should be cultivated in these degenerate days, it is decision of character. Mr. Drinkwater deposited among other relies in the North-east corner of the buildings being erected by him, a copy of tlie Dawson Journal, of Oct. 5 th. May the roof of theso buildings shelter the heads of many yet unborn, and in the far distant future, when we shall all have ceased to drink-water, may their walls stand as monuments to the skill and worth of the mechan ics of the nineteenth century. Remarkable Family. —There is a family in Calhoun county, consisting of husband, wife and five children, that boast of tho following remarkable features in their history : The husband and father never wore a suit of “store clothes,” never took a doso of medi cine, never drank a drop of liquor, never ate a meal’s victuals at his own house cooked by a negro, and never took but oue chew of tobacco. Tho wife and mother lias never worn any other than a home-woven dress except on Sundays, and has never taken any medicine. Tho same facts relate to the children as to the parents. An other fact might bo stated —that if you eat at tho old gentleman’s tablo, you will bo convinced they have been thor oughly educated in the culinary de partment. Little Johnny Teasly died on Sun day morniugjast, and but for tho hu mane feelings of somo of the citizens, would have been coffined and buried by his mother and little brothers It matters not, however, with tho little sleeper by what influences ho was surrounded while on earth, and it is perhaps better that ho should not havo lived to imbibe the corruption afloat in the land. Special Notices, Trust wlmt Time lias Sanc tioned. The mnxim that the voice of the people is the voice of the divinity, may in some cases, be open to doubt, but the testimony of honest and enlighted witnesses extending through a series of years, and all to the same purport, is worthy of credence, admit of no question. Upon such testimony the reputa tion of Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters as au an tidote and cute for many ailments is based During the twenty years that it has been be fore the woGd, innumerable prcpaiatious in tended to compete with it, have gone up like rockets, and come down the extinguished sticks. Meanwhile the progress of that in comparable touic has been swift end steady —always upward and onward like the eagle’s flight. Is introduction produced a revolu tion in therapeutics, and it proved to be one qf those salu'ary revolutions that cannot go backwards. 7’o-day Hostetter’s Bitters is oue of the most popular remedies in Chris tendom, and commands a larger sale than 'any oilier medicinal prep nation, domestic or imported, on this side of the Atlantic. Asa cure for dyspepsia, bilious disorders, nervous affections, gtuieral debility, and as a prevent ive of epidemic fevers, it takes precedence of every other remedy. This fact should teach the ambitious country dealers who endeavor to foist their local abortions on the public in its stead, how futile their small attempts to c• jole the community must necessarily be.— Where tim game fish have failed thete is no ctiunce lor the “suckers. *’ FALL muiaery i I t.ikc pleasure in informing my customers and friends that mv Fall Slock of Millinery goods is no# complete, and I will be pleased to exhibit them to any who may call on me. fashion plates and the l**e«t designs of Ladies and Miscs Hats and Bonnets, can be seen at my Store, and orders for the same will be promptly fill, and in as good style and on as reasonable terms as can be had in this market. .4lso, a lull line of Notions, Fancy Goods, etc., always on hand.
